Letter from the Principal

Welcome back to term 3, it is wonderful to see our students already being resilient and reflective learners.
The end of last term was a busy time. Thank you to all families who engaged in parent teacher interviews at the end of term 2, read stories as part of NAIDOC week celebrations and joined in the fun of our Mascot Launch day. We appreciate your partnership with us in your child’s learning journey.
This term, we will commemorate and celebrate 50 years of Leumeah Public School. I hope our families can join in the welcome ceremony, open classrooms, community picnic and Student Showcase with performances from our 2023 Striving for Excellence groups.
Spotlight on new staff
I would like to introduce Miss Melanie Tickle, our term 3 Relieving Deputy Principal. Melanie joins us with extensive experience. She has been an Assistant Principal for a number of years and most recently was an Assistant Principal Curriculum & Instruction. Melanie has worked at Granville South PS, Eschol Park PS and Minto PS. She has led a range of initiatives across these schools, we are very fortunate to have her join the team at Leumeah PS. Melanie is passionate about leading improvements in literacy, numeracy and wellbeing.
Please also welcome Miss Zaynab Sayed Ally, the class teacher for 1/2B, officially starting this term.
Zaynab is a high achieving graduate from Western Sydney University. She has recently finalised her Master of Teaching (Primary). Some of our community may recognise Zaynab already, as she completed her final teaching practicum on 1/2B last term. We are very fortunate to have such a smooth transition for the students in 1/2B, who have already bonded with Miss Ally. Zaynab is passionate about building relationships with her students and the wider community, whilst continuing to learn from her colleagues.
Please make Melanie & Zaynab both feel welcome as part of our LPS community.
Attendance – being on time
Arriving to school between 8:30-9:00am is crucial to enable your child a successful and settled start to their day. This term, we will be adding some new incentives to celebrate the number of students who attend every day and on time. Being on time is important for students to achieve their best.
Keep an eye on correspondence coming home, as the attendance team will be trialling a raffle to participate in a Principal’s morning tea (there may even be donuts!)
Parents and carers are reminded that there is no supervision before 8.30am and students should not arrive before this time.
Coffee Chat
During 2023, parents and carers have been invited each term to join staff for a morning “coffee & chat”. It is an opportunity to share more information about school initiatives and gain community feedback.
The response has been very positive and this term, we look forward to hosting two 'coffee & chat' mornings. An invitation will be coming to your Seesaw inbox in the coming weeks. I encourage you to come along, meet our staff and have a chat. There are always delicious scones on offer!
I thank everyone for their smooth return to school this term. I look forward to 'striving for excellence' with you all in term 3.
