Deadly Jarjums -   'awesome children'

Mrs Hambley and Mrs Seeney

Leading learning - Sorry Day

Our deadly students proudly lead learning about Sorry Day with an assembly.  National Sorry Day remembers and acknowledges the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families and communities.

Jarjums (children) shared a piece of poetry called ‘We are Going’ written by Oodgeroo Noonuccal. She was an Aboriginal Australian, political activist, artist and educator, who campaigned for Aboriginal rights. Each class contributed to a mural that was displayed in the administration foyer.

Celebrating Elders and our Mobs

NAIDOC Week (National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee) occurs annually in July, and celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

In the last week of term 2 our deadly students lead celebrations through sharing their cultural knowledge about their traditional land/Country and poems that celebrate their Elders.  All jarjums (children) collaborated to share an Acknowledgement of Country.

First Nation Elders, parents/caregivers were invited to share a cultural story and/or text with classes.  A massive thank you to all our parents/caregivers, grandparents, Aunties/Uncles and Elders who gave their time to share about the oldest living culture.  Teachers lead students in creating a class Acknowledgement of Country.
