Week 2 and 3
Grade 5 and 6 have been working hard to design, plan and make their clay houses. The brief asked students to plan a house that was made of ‘slab construction’, that was hollow and no larger than 10cm3. Easier said than done, students had to draw on skills and understanding learned in Term 2 to successfully make an even slab of clay, make templates to guide their cutting and to join the pieces securely in order to make their construction stand up. I am so proud of these students! Not only are they succeeding but they are showing real patience and perseverance.
Before heading off to camp, Grade 3 and 4s started making paper mache forms using balloons, glue and newspaper. Layers of gluey strips will make a very strong shell on which the masks will be made. Eventually we will add ears, snouts and other Australian animal features to create our masks. Here are some images of our progress so far.
Grade 2s have demonstrated their ability to paper mache on their egg carton constructions. We cut out egg carton parts and put them together to create tiny animal heads. Even though we have only just started, we can see out pets coming to life! We agree that you need tiny fingers for this project!
We are on the hunt for big cardboard boxes for our Dragon Boat Festival on 11 August, where our Kooramook groups will work together with our International visitors to build boats and race them on foot. If you have or can obtain some cardboard, please drop off to the science room. Thanks in advance!
The Art Team, Sisley, Karanpreet and Elyse are organising a colouring-in competition for our budding artists here at Mullum. There will be prizes for the best 2 artists! Winners will be displayed on the window at the entrance of our school. Colouring sheets will be available at the front office soo. Here is a sneak peek at the picture designed by Elyse and Karanpreet.
