New Staff 2016 - Part 1

Introducing the New Staff

As you look around the School, you may see a few unfamiliar faces. We have a number of new staff members joining our BHCS team this year (as well as some who have returned as new staff again).

 

We would like to warmly welcome all our new staff members. We thought we would ask them a couple of questions about themselves as we introduce them to you....

Introducing... Alison Smart

1. What you are teaching/excited about this year?

I'm looking forward to getting to know and supporting the students in year 10 and excited to be working at BHCS.

2. What did you do previously?

Previously I have worked in different settings with children, adolescents and adults who have disabilities.

3. What you do for fun?

I enjoy going to a good cafe with friends, travelling and watching my children play sport.

Introducing... Andrew Ware

1. What you are teaching/excited about this year?

I am teaching Year 9, 10 & 11 English and Year 10 SOSE, as well as having a Year 9 Homegroup.  I am excited about teaching these terrific groups of students.

2. What did you do previously?

I've been a teacher for 3 years, and before that I worked in International Logistics.

3. What you do for fun?

I like to read, play guitar and piano (badly), and spend time with my wife and daughter.

Introducing... Eleanor Roberts

1. What you are teaching/excited about this year?

 I am a new learning support staff member for Year 9. I am excited to be returning to the workforce after quite a few years out, supporting the learning and growth of my own children, their friends and the youth of our church.

2. What did you do previously?

 I have a background in visual arts and ceramics. 

3. What you do for fun?

I love to upcycle furniture, propagate plants and grow gardens, make stuff, bake stuff and go treasure hunting in op shops.

Introducting... Imelda Winagun

1. What you are teaching/excited about this year?

I am looking forward to many doors that God is going to open this year for me. 

2. What did you do previously?

I was part of  BHCS Admin staff for six years. I took 12 months off work and have now returned to working in the Discovery Centre. Come and visit us! 

3. What you do for fun?

Gardening, reading and scrapbooking - also playing Mario Kart with my boys...just for fun!

Introducing... Lynne Brown

1. What you are teaching/excited about this year?

I will be working in Reception this year. I am excited about new challenges.

2. What did you do previously?

Previously I worked for a local building firm in Fenrtree Gully as an Office Manager.

3. What you do for fun?

I love hanging out with my family, especially my husband and kids. I also love gardening, taking my kids on bike rides, and family holidays.

Introducing... Nick Burke

1. What you are teaching/excited about this year?

I'll be teaching Maths and Physics across Years 8 to 12 and also taking a Year 10 Homegroup. I'm excited about getting to know my students and getting involved in all the extra camps and activities.

2. What did you do previously?

 I was originally a Race Engineer, but have been teaching Maths, Science and Outdoor Ed. for the last 6 years, as well as co-ordinating the Senior School at my previous workplace.

3. What you do for fun?

In my spare time I love to surf, ride my bike and get out into the wilderness.

Introducing... Scott Black

1. What you are teaching/excited about this year?

I am teaching the wonderful 5/6SB class and am excited by all the opportunities we are going to have to learn and have fun together!

2. What did you do previously?

I have spent the last 12 years teaching at Waverley Christian College across a variety of grades from Year 3 to Year 6, as well as teaching a Year 10 electronics course. Prior to my teaching career, I worked as an electronics technician in my home state of Tasmania.

3. What you do for fun?

For fun, I enjoy spending time with my family,  reading a good book and playing golf where my handicap is the person holding the club! In the past I have also enjoyed playing basketball and sailing, although those glory days are long gone!

Introducing... Teresa Douglass

1. What you are teaching/excited about this year?

I am teaching a Year 7 homegroup. I have my class in all core subjects and PE. I am also teaching a Year 7 Outdoor Education elective.

2. What did you do previously?

I taught Secondary PE/Legal studies and the last 10 years I have been teaching Primary classroom in Grade 6 at a State Primary school.

3. What you do for fun?

I love camping, anything to do with the beach, skiing and reading.
