From the Principal's Desk

Dr Nancy Hillier

Across last Saturday and Sunday, Pittwater House took part in the North Shore Education Exhibition at Chatswood. This was a new initiative for us. It is always wonderful to showcase our School and share all that we know and love about the HEROIC journey we are on.

Parents with whom we engaged were mindful of the challenge in gaining a place, often realising they had left their run too late, for the next couple of years. It is timely for me to remind current Pittwater House families that our enrolments are very tight in the coming years. So please, if you or your friends are seeking enrolment in the next few years and have not submitted an enrolment application, it is highly likely that you will be waitlisted.

Since the last edition of HouseNews, we have acknowledged our Academic Achievers, the Principal’s Honours List for Semester 1, for students in Years 5 to 10. Year 11 students will be acknowledged in the coming weeks. These students in the photo below, have attained excellent results across their subjects and are to be commended for the standard they have gained, their commitment to their studies, and in most cases, their all-round achievement in co-curricular activities too.

I am indebted to all secondary families for your support of our Remote Learning last week. From all accounts, the week was seamless. I know how much preparation the Staff give to this form of learning, and whilst, thankfully, remote learning will never replace learning in situ, this time gave our builders free rein to inch us ever closer to the completion of the building works.

The HSC students meanwhile are past the halfway mark of the Trials and enjoying the peace and seclusion of the off-site facility at Narrabeen. And as I pen this edition of HouseNews, the accelerated Year 11 Maths Advanced students are also undertaking their HSC Maths Trial paper. My good wishes to all the students still with papers to write.

We are in awe of the achievements of P5S teacher, Mr Smith. Recently he participated in the Moloka’i 2 O’ahu Paddleboard World Championships held in Hawaii. Coming in, in 6th place overall after five hours crossing the 2,300 foot deep channel, Mr Smith covered 32 miles in this event that has taken place since 1952. What an inspiration you are Mr Smith. Sincere congratulations from the entire Pittwater House community.

And finally, my thanks again to the PHPA for the wonderful Trivia Night. The Hall was abuzz with great engagement, marvellous attention to Christmas attire, and food presentation worthy of a lengthy feast. The festive spirit allowed the attendees to realise the benefits of collective Trivia wisdom, and those who were unable to attend this year, will, I am sure make this a diary event for 2024.

With every good wish to you all for the weeks ahead.
