Mathematics Overview (IBDP & TCE)
To help students and parents understand the significant range of Mathematics courses on offer in both the IBDP and TCE curriculum the Head of Mathematics has recorded a video that provides clear guidance and support for your choices.
IBDP
Students choosing to take the IBDP pathway at The Friends’ School must select one Mathematics subject from:
• Mathematics: Applications and interpretations (Standard Level)
• Mathematics: Analysis and approaches (Standard Level)
• Mathematics: Analysis and approaches (Higher Level)
Students need to consider their own;
- particular needs
- achievements in mathematics to date
- interests
- other choices in the IBDP
- future academic pathways
- career choice
Students are strongly encouraged to consult their Mathematics teacher and/or the Head of Faculty before making their choice.
TCE
The Mathematics Faculty offers a variety of TCE Mathematics courses which may be taken by students in Years 11 and 12. These include:
- Essential Mathematics - Personal Level 2
- General Mathematics Foundation - Level 2
- General Mathematics - Level 3
- Mathematics Methods Foundation - Level 3
- Mathematics Methods - Level 4
- Mathematics Specialised - Level 4
When making a choice, students should carefully consider current university prerequisites for the course(s) of their choice as well as other employment opportunities. Students are encouraged to consult their Mathematics teacher and/or the Head of Faculty when making their choice.
