What will I learn?

Visual Art Level 2 is a course that is designed to allow students to experience art making in a single studio, encouraging innovation and skill development. The aim of the course is for students to develop visual thinking skills, the ability to and discuss artists and interpret artworks, and support students to create a body of work. The course provides students with a strong foundation for further study in Visual Art Level 3. Art students are required to undertake three distinct modules. Art students may explore studio disciplines as diverse as drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, digital media, video, design, ceramics, sculpture, mixed media and installation. 

This course is organised into three modules of study: 

• Module 1: Artwork and meaning 
• Module 2: Approaches to art making 
• Module 3: Concepts and consolidation 

Students work towards producing resolved artworks during these modules. Students are also required to use an art journal to document their progress and show how their support material reflects their thinking processes as this serves as a record of their idea generation and development. 

This course is offered in the Art or Ceramics studio.  Students should specify the studio they intend to specialise in when completing their subject choice forms.

• Visual Art Level 2 provides a pathway to Visual Art Level 3
• Visual Art Level 2 may also complement study in Art Theory and Criticism Level 3
