Principal's Report

Jane Briffa | Principal

Dear Skye Families,

It is with great excitement that I welcome you back to Term 2 and our brand-new Newsletter format. It has been wonderful to see all our students return to school this week full of excitement and holiday stories to share.  I am very pleased to welcome our new staff member, Ms Krystal Anderson, who will be teaching 2A for the remainder of the year.

We hope that you take time to peruse the new one stop shop for both our usual newsletter items and your grade level Connect information. Both the Newsletter & Connect will be published fortnightly on the odd weeks of each term (Week 1, 3, 5 etc). Sentral will continue to be our main means of regular communication. We would love your feedback on new format and any ideas or areas for improvement that you feel we should consider.

Term 2 is a relatively short term, being only 9 weeks, culminating in student reports and an opportunity for parent/teacher interviews on Monday 19th June. It will be a very busy term indeed. It is also a timely reminder that every day counts for your child’s attendance at school. There is a direct link between school attendance and achievement later in life. The benefits of regular attendance are many. Regular attendance leads to increased social skill development and communication skills, the ability to engage with friends and maintain relationships to support a healthy self-esteem. It also develops the skills and attitudes required for lifelong habits relating to organisation, punctuality, resilience and self-discipline. Each day a student misses puts them behind in some way. There is no ‘safe’ number of days for missing school. Of course, if your child is genuinely sick then they need to stay at home. If you are having trouble getting your child to school, please always reach out to us.

We are hoping that you have noticed the beautiful new artwork that has been painted on the boundary wall of the basketball court/carpark. A huge thank you to Mr Bernau for securing the very talented artist, Shannon Lamden, who completed this amazing mural during the holidays. We are fortunate enough to receive a donation each term from the Carrum Gardens Social Club (Bingo) which we put towards the upgrades and maintenance of our buildings and grounds. We are hoping to add some more of Shannon's lovely artwork to brighten up the Kiss & Go area for our students.

Next Monday, 1st of May is our official 150th birthday. It was on this day that the school officially opened. We will be celebrating the day at school by offering a sausage sizzle and ice-cream lunch. Order forms were sent home on Wednesday. It is a very quick turn-around so please contact the office today if you have not received a form.

Enrolments have opened this term for our 2024 Preps. If you have a child who will be enrolling with us in 2024, please contact the office to obtain your enrolment forms. If you have neighbours or friends looking to enrol with us, tour dates are listed on the School Website and families can register online.

Wishing everyone a wonderful fortnight!

Kind Regards,

Jane Briffa
