Connect: Year 4

Welcome back to Term 2!

Important Grade 4 Dates
Grade 4 and 5 Art Centre ExcursionThursday 22nd June

Hello families,

We are very excited to use this modern platform to share our fortnightly Grade 4 Connect.

On Tuesday the 9th May, Skye Primary is having a Mother's Day High Tea at 2pm. Classes are presenting a performance and for this we are asking if you could send through a picture of you/Mum and your child. Ideally we would like this to be sent to your child's teacher's email however a hard copy is also ok.

The Next Fortnight of Learning

Literacy

Over the next two weeks we will be working on:

  • Practising the role of the connector, word wizard and literary luminary in our Book Clubs groups.
  • Our vocabulary words are affirmative, negative and impact.
  • Planning and delivering a group debate. Watch out they might practise their negotiating skills on you!

Maths

Over the next two weeks we will be working on:

  • Counting improper fractions beyond one whole
  • Converting improper fractions to mixed numerals
  • Placing mixed fractions on a number line
  • Math mystery
  • Number talks

Inquiry

This term students will identify connections between themselves and other people, places and environments in their lives. They will be able to locate Australia's neighbouring countries and be able to contribute to conversations about what life may be life in these places. Students will build on their understanding of the geography of Australia and its position in the world, as they navigate information technology and cartographic tools and resources.

Wellbeing

Over the next two weeks students will continue exploring the Zones of Regulation, specifically how recognising emotions in others helps us to collaborate effectively.

We will also be investigating our own personal character strengths and strengths we admire in others. This will give students the chance to celebrate things that make them who they are and set goals on traits they wish to improve.

Reminders

  • Students are not required to wear school hats in Term 2 and 3. Students may take their hats home to bring back in Term 4.
  • Mother's Day photo.
  • Remember to read for a minimum of 20 minutes each day.
  • To borrow library books students need a library bag - this can be satchel, pillow case, tote bag etc.

A Celebration of Learning

We are very proud of students' 'Explode the Moment' writing pieces they did last term.
