Connect: Year 3

April 2023

Welcome to our new look Connect!

We hope you all had a lovely break for Easter and your child is refreshed and ready to tackle Term Two! We don't have any year level specific dates as yet, but please make sure you're familiar with the dates in the whole school section.

What is happening in our classrooms?

  • Literacy: For our first week back we have been looking at making connections between texts, ourselves and the world. We wrote a recount about our school holidays and turned it into some graphic art! Over the next weeks we will be looking at making predictions and beginning more work on narratives.
  • Maths: This week has been all about revising Place Value, pulling numbers apart, renaming them and understanding the value of each digit in a number. We began some work on problem solving and learning strategies to help us work them out. Over the next couple of weeks we will continue these areas along with some activities involving money.
  • Inquiry: We have paid our respects this week by learning about ANZAC day. We have completed an activity called the 'gratitude poppy'. Throughout this term we will be delving into the unit 'The Blue Marble' which is about our local environment and its plants and animals.
  • Wellbeing: This week we jumped straight back into learning strategies which can assist us both in the classroom and in the yard. The students are now working on a poster which can be displayed in the classroom and around the playground for students to use!

Reminders

  1. TODAY A READER ~ TOMORROW A LEADER - We are excited to check out how your child has been reading over the holidays. Although it is important for them to take some initiative and log their reading, please ensure your child is reading regularly! It is absolutely vital for their development in their comprehension skills. We will be following up with children who have not shown regular reading.

Look at what we have here!

An exciting link to check out! Here is a free resources which is handy for both school and home. It is called Toy Theatre and is great if you don't have physical items to help your child to learn. Feel free to check it out and save it as a bookmark!

A celebration of our learning!

Here is the stunning Artwork from 2/3C!

During Maths this week, we have been starting to use different strategies to solve problems. This week we did a hundreds cube. The students had to work out which symbols represented the numbers up to 100.

We hope you have a wonderful week ahead. Please contact us if you have questions!
