Year 4 News

Welcome to Year 4!

Swimming Programme

We have hit the ground running in Year 4 with the swimming program. Children happily participated in the Year 4 intensive swimming programme for 9 days. We finished last Thursday and want to congratulate the students for their attitude, preparedness and enthusiasm during this time. They were a delightful bunch to take swimming and should be proud of their behaviour and efforts.

Thank you to Kirsty Hall for organising the programme and Brent Plowright, Dan Farmer and Jess Patane for their support during the sessions. Our grade 4’s are now well prepared for the House Carnival on Monday.

STEAM

Students have been full of excitement and anticipation ahead of each lesson with Mrs Graham. At present they are exploring How the World Works and have been understanding solids, liquids and gases. Today they made oobleck which was a highlight!

Literacy

We have launched our Daily 5 over the past few weeks: Read to Self, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, Work on Words and Writing. We look forward to seeing students “Work on Words” in their first lot of spelling homework this week and recording their “Reading to Self” in their diaries. Students have also completed a Reading and Viewing Learning Task on the States of Matter. Feedback will be available in Compass shortly.

Maths

Students are learning about place value and practising their times tables during afternoon “Silent Maths”. We are looking at units of measurement during applied maths, converting between centimetres, metres and kilometres. We are continuing with Matharoo on a Monday during our problem-solving sessions.
