Beaumaris Secondary College students Sophie, Joel & Baden (previous BNPS students), came to speak to our students about being a leader and how to get the most out of your final year of primary school.

We also had a surprise celebrity guest and basketball player from Melbourne United attending, David Barlow (Mrs Lees brother).

Our Wellbeing Captains organised morning tea for our students (Bakers Delight).

Year 6 Leadership

This week our Year 6 leaders were presented with their badges at an Assembly on Monday 20 February.

Please look at the Year 6 page for all the photos of our new leaders.

The representatives of Years 3, 4 and 5 Student Agency Team will be presented with their badges in coming week.

Esmart Week

This week Beaumaris North have kick started the year with our cyber safety awareness week. We were thrilled to have Trent; Co-Founder of the Cyber Safety Project came and teach our Prep to Year 5 students about digital wellbeing.

The students will continue their cyber safety learning throughout the year with lessons they will complete in their classes based around the four online themes of responsibility, integrity, strength and empathy. In December, Trent will be back to work with the Year 6’s as they transition to high school and continue to navigate their online worlds.

We had a wonderful eSmart Assembly yesterday where the students had the opportunity to showcase their online safety learning with each other. It was great to see the 2023 eSmart Captains, Mitch North and Parker Goodbody host their first eSmart Assembly, allowing them to share their passion of technology and being safe online. Well done to the Year 1s who performed a fabulous rendition of ‘STOP’ to finish the cyber safety celebration.

Trent presented students from each year level with certificates congratulating them on their safe use of electronic devices.

Last week, Trent from the Cyber Safety Project hosted the first online safety webinar, ‘Plan, Prevent, Protect’ for our parent community. If you missed it, I encourage you to click the link below to watch the recording.

English Online Interview (EOL)for students in Prep and Year 1

At the beginning of the school year all students in Prep and Year 1 are required to participate in the English Online Interview (EOL).

Prep students completed this one-on-one test on the Wednesdays that they do not attend school.  All Prep testing must be completed during weeks 1-5.

All Students in Year 1 will be completing this test next week.  EOL with all Year 1 students is part of an initiative to build on the existing strengths of literacy practice in Victorian government schools, with an increased focus on phonics teaching and assessment.  The Year 1 mandatory assessment period must be in weeks 3-7.

To obtain further data we are also testing all Prep students on the numeracy Interview.

Our 2023 Prep students are the first cohort for several years who have not had an interrupted “Kinder” year and we need to monitor their data in relation to the past three years.

The information provided by this data informs our curriculum planning and assessment requirements.

NAPLAN Inline Test 2023

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) - tests for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will be held in March this year in the period between March 15 and March 27.

NAPLAN tests assess student knowledge and skills in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. The results of the tests provide information for students, parents, teachers and principals and can be used to improve student achievement.

Additional information will be provided to families with students in Years 3 and 5 in coming weeks.  NAPLAN is being conducted much earlier this year.

What Can IB?

Beaumaris North Primary School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School authorised to teach the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and provides the framework for implementing the requirements of the Victorian Curriculum

Teaching and learning in the IB celebrates the many ways people work together to construct meaning and make sense of the world. An IB education empowers young people for a lifetime of learning, independently and in collaboration with others.

CSEF Financial Assistance Information

Every Victorian child should have access to the world of learning opportunities that exist beyond the classroom. The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund helps ensure that no student will miss out on the opportunity to join their classmates for important, educational and fun activities.

It is part of making Victoria the Education State and the Government’s commitment to breaking the link between a student’s background and their outcomes.

BNPS Welcome Picnic

The Parents and Friends have organised a 'Welcome Picnic' on Friday 24 March, 5-7pm on the school oval.

A wonderful opportunity to reconnect with friends and welcome new families to our school. Bop till you drop will be providing entertainment for all.

We would love to see you all there :)

Personal Property

We strongly discourage bringing valuable items to school. The Department of Education and Training (DET) does not hold insurance, nor does it accept responsibility for personal property brought to schools by students, staff and visitors. DET has no capacity to pay for any loss or damage to such property.

Security

Private property brought to school by staff or students is not insured and the Department of Education and Training (DET) does not accept any responsibility for any loss or damage. Students, staff and visitors often bring personal property to school; this can include mobile phones, calculators, toys, sporting equipment and cars parked on school premises.  Please note the Department of Education does not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools and it will not pay for any loss or damage to such property.

Scooters and Bikes

Please note that if students, or parents, bring scooters and bikes to school, they are NOT to be ridden within the school grounds.  We have so many children and parents before and after school in our school grounds who don’t want to be injured by a scooter or bike. Please walk bikes and scooters no matter how tempting it is to ride.

Note that the school takes no responsibility for the security of bikes and scooters – however we do our best to ensure that they are secure.

Parking Reminder URGENT attention please

There is a 2-minute zone where parents can pull up and drop off students in Wood Street.  However, parents should not leave their cars and go into the school grounds when in this zone, as that will take longer than the allowable time of 2 minutes.

Bayside Council and Traffic Management regularly patrol to ensure that parking is within the law.  Parking around all schools is difficult but please consider safety for our children.  It is a good idea to park a little further away and walk to school.

Kind regards

Sherril
