Curriculum Matters

HASS

This term our students will investigate a History unit, Who was here first? This topic introduces world history and the movement of peoples. We will look at the history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, students will examine European exploration and colonisation in Australia up to the early 1800s.

Students will place some key events and people they have studied in chronological sequence using timelines. Students will pose questions about the past and locate relevant information from different historical sources. Students will use historical sources to compare key aspects of the past with the present. They will identify and explain important changes and continuities over time. Students will compose historical texts, including narratives, using appropriate historical terms.

We look forward to our visit to the SA Maritime Museum as we tune into this topic and begin finding out some interesting facts and details about the past.

LA16 & 17 will be going on Wednesday, 3/06/2015. LA 18 & 19 will be going on Thursday, 11/06/2015.

If you are able to join us on this excursion and have the volunteers checks in place, please let your child’s teacher know as soon as possible.

The Arts

Students will continue to be involved in visual arts and dance. They will use a variety of media to create 3 dimensional sculptures. They will continue to work together to improvise dance sequences, practise skills and perform dances.

Science

In Science this term our focus will be around Earth and Space sciences.

Students will be exploring the movement of the Earth and how this causes day/night. We have begun by exploring shadows and how they are created, which has already evoked much curiosity about our planet.

In addition to this, students will be learning about how natural and human processes cause changes to the Earth's surface.

We look forward to a very exciting time in Science!
