It is important that students understand how different types of text vary in use of language choices, depending on their purpose and context (for example, tense and types of sentences. This term we will continue to explicitly teach persuasive text and historical narrative. Students will learn how to write a historical narrative using the following features;
•accurate historic events and details of actual places.
• one person’s point of view.
• some characters and circumstances invented by the writer.
• chronological organization.
Children will be given the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of the structure and features of each text type in a variety of ways.They may present orally and/ or in a variety of mediums, such as creating electronic text ,acting or using puppets.
Students will continue to work on comprehension strategies based on the skills they need to develop.
Students will continue to borrow books and readers on a regular basis from the library and Aula. It is the students responsibility to change their books regularly.
In word study students will continue to focus on the four spelling knowledge's (morphemic, visual, phonological and etymological).This will help provide students with not only more accurate spelling, but with more word choices within their speaking, reading and writing.They will also continue to work in small groups around syllabification, long and short vowel sounds, suffixes and prefix, homonyms and plurals.
To develop the students speaking and listening students will be involved in a variety of activities to build their confidence speaking in front of an audience and oral language. All students will be involved in presenting a 1 minute oral assessment around their favourite book.
