What Did You Do At School?

Prep

We have had a FANTASTIC start to the year. On the first day, we enjoyed meeting our new teachers and making new friends. When our parents picked us up, we invited them into our new classrooms. Our new learning spaces are colourful and welcoming. We loved meeting Mrs Kelly and practising our drawing skills in the Art room. While on a school tour, we met lots of new people and saw some very exciting places. One of the highlights was meeting Aristotle the Axolotl in Mrs McGill’s office. At recess and lunch we LOVE playing on the playground. Our monkey bar skills are already improving! Miss Wynne, Mrs Ashmore and Miss Newton are so proud of the way we have shown resilience and perseverance in our first two weeks at school. We wonder what exciting events will happen next.

Year 1

WOW! What an amazing start to 2023 for the SUPERSTAR Year 1s.

This week we have been learning about class expectations, using our manners and getting to know our new school family. We have been exploring the concept of working together in teams, and this was done through an array of activities. We played battleships, snakes and ladders, secret picture, numicon pictures and brainstormed all the words we knew. Most importantly, we are learning how to help and support each other with patience and understanding in our daily classroom life.

Year 2

We have had a fantastic start to the school year! We quickly settled into our new learning environment and are excited to discover all the wonderful things we will learn this year. As a part of the Year 2 Strings program, we have been allocated our instrument, either a cello, viola or violin. We can't wait to show you our new learning when we play as an ensemble at the end of the term.

Year 3

What an incredible start we have had! Mrs Rodgers, Miss Gaiser and Mrs Perry have been blown away by the joy and kindness shown by all students, especially towards those new to Oxley. We have loved learning fun facts about each other, helping us to make connections and recognise similarities and differences – even with our teachers! We especially enjoyed the opportunity to meet with our friends in Year 4, imagining what it would be like to be one of 122 convicts crammed in a teeny section of a ship for eight months. It is definitely a lot better being on land!

Year 4

It has been a great start to our school year with an exciting two weeks spent catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. Welcome Mohi, Nathaniel and Samyukta to Year 4 at Oxley! We have begun learning about the First Fleet and the impact of European settlement on First Australians. We measured out the length of the Charlotte, one of the First Fleet ships and imagined how little space travellers would have had. We are looking forward to an excursion later in the term when we will learn more.

Year 5

Wow! This year is off to an awesome start. We spent time getting to know one another and developing class rules that will help us all learn. Friday 3 February was an especially exciting day. We had our first session of Year 5 and 6 Sport to start the day. Some of us will compete in Interschool Sports while others will learn how to play Ultimate Frisbee. It was great fun working with different students and teachers. After lunch, we had our first instrumental lesson. This year we will learn to play either the saxophone, trumpet, trombone, flute, clarinet or percussion. We enjoyed getting to know our instrumental instructors and were excited to take our instruments home. With all this and more happening in our first week of Year 5, we walk confidently and excitedly into this year.

Year 6

We have so much to look forward to! We are taking the responsibility of leading the Junior School seriously, knowing that our actions set an example for the younger students. We are thoroughly enjoying our new classrooms and have settled into our daily routines smoothly. Special programs like 5 / 6 Sport, Instrumental Music and ensembles have already begun and are an excellent addition to our education. Mr Gaiser and Mrs Bradshaw are very proud of the fabulous start Year 6 has made in 2023.
