Making every second count
Year 12 study session
Senior Study is valuable time utilised constructively by our current Year 12 students. During periods 3 and 4 on most days of the school week, some of our Year 12 students use this study time to either complete, catch up on or revise work. Working independently or in small groups, students work by the motto, ”Make Every Second Count!” The learning environment created and fostered is a significant factor in supporting our Year 12 students in their senior journey. Staff and students have worked enthusiastically to create a place where students feel comfortable, valued and supported in their learning.
Here are some thoughts expressed by our current, Year 12 Senior Study students:
“I like my learning environment to be …”
a quiet place AND fun/enjoyable but quiet (I put on my earphones anyway!)
flexible so we can do solitary as well as group study
a peaceful and calm place
an open place AND not crowded
we are able interact with each other – small groups/teams, like-minded people, has sensible people,
has natural lighting
has good ventilation
has music
has “brain food”
has freedom to a certain extent
a friendly teacher
allows for regular regular breaks in between study
“What has changed between Year 11 and 12 Senior Study time?”
no major difference
no library
noisier in the classroom – library was quieter
we have a kitchen
a teacher there to help if we need it and makes sure that we are on top of things
quieter
room is different – it is brighter
more focus on study/work
no choice given as we have to go to a classroom and this can be limiting
better in the classroom
more interaction - friendlier
more organised
Thanks Year 12!
