Students commemorate ANZAC Day
Anzac Day is one of Australia’s most important national occasions. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War. It is the day on which we remember all Australians who served and died in war and on service. The spirit of the ANZACS and their associated qualities of courage, mateship and sacrifice, continue to have meaning and relevance for our sense of national identity and our shared history. The school community respectfully commemorated this occasion by holding two ceremonies of remembrance. The focus of the ceremonies was the Battle of Beersheba in Palestine and the role of the Australian Imperial Camel Corps during the Second World War.
Students from Year 9 and 10 History classes, Kosta Tsoukalas, Natalie Narvaiza, Alan Dan, Laura Giovenale, Liam Anderson and Nikola Sekularac participated in the running of the ceremonies and they were assisted by Year 7 students laid red poppies and the official wreath. Mr Griffiths and students Emma Sanchez and Christina Sartsiri performed “The Band played Waltzing Matilda” and the Australian National Anthem.
The audience stood for a minute silence to show our respects to those who have represented Australia during our military efforts over the years. M Mukkattu, History teacher
