The Learning Support and Enrichment (LSE) Department is responsible for managing and administering Special (Disability) Provisions for students in Years 5-12 during all exam blocks, including the Year 11 exam block currently running. We also assist students who may have a temporary injury such as a broken arm or other hand or shoulder injury. The LSE Department is often in need of ‘extra hands’ to help us provide readers, scribes or support person(s) for a range of students with special needs who qualify for such exam provisions. If you have a morning or afternoon spare during school hours, we would greatly appreciate your help. It’s easy work and our volunteers to date consistently say that it is a pleasure working with our boys, as they are grateful and courteous for help received.

Are you interested in being a reader or scribe for a student with a reading, writing or learning need? If so we’d love to hear from you! The next major exam blocks are in Weeks 4 and 5 next term. Please note that for policy reasons, we would not ask you to administer provisions for your son or other student in your son’s year.

If interested, please visit the SPX Volunteers info page at http://www.spx.nsw.edu.au/community/dsp-default.cfm?loadref=2266 follow the links to register and contact Ms Raheb-Mol, LSE Coordinator, to confirm your interest and register an available  day or date. Thanking you in advance, JRahebMol@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au  (telephone (02) 9414 4382)

7-9 Enrichment Club

For all interested Year 7, 8 and 9 –  Day 10 Friday Lunchtime in LC1

7-9 Enrichment Club is on each Day 10 Friday lunchtime in LC1. Its aims are to promote opportunities for interested students who want to extend their thinking skills, enjoy learning and research challenges, and making new mates in other classes and year groups, as they engage in trivia quizzes, games, drama, online activities and more.

This is an informal and open club that will provide opportunities for students to practise up on creative thinking, problem-solving strategies and coding skills. Boys are encouraged to develop critical thinking, general knowledge and leadership skills through bringing in ideas and running projects or activities, in an area of personal strength or skill, and many activities will be geared to skilling boys up for competition entry opportunities (optional), including the annual Da Vinci Decathlon Competition. These may include vocabulary games, maths problems, lateral thinking puzzles, catchphrases, as well as self-generated research questions or sharing of topics of interest.

There is no cost for joining or attending at Enrichment Club, except for any solo competition entry fees which selected students may choose to participate in, and students will be well advised about these and parent permission notes sent home before time, whenever these opportunities arise.

If interested, just bring along your lunch and your imagination each Day 10 Friday Lunchtime in LC1. Ms Raheb-Mol looks forward to seeing you there. For further information or queries, please see or contact Ms Raheb-Mol at JRahebMol@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au
