Market Day #2 raised just over $3000 for St Mary’s Primary School in Bowraville.
Medieval romance, lego wrestling matches, prison breakouts, Northern Territory travelogues - this year's festival was full of interesting films by students from Year 6 to Year 12! Lights Camera Pius! is in its third year and proving to be a very popular event at the College. The gym filled last Friday and there was excitement and cheering with early students being treated to some free popcorn.
The competition was very tight and our judges - Ms Alex Foord, Ms Pip Waters and Year 8 student Tristan Williams - had a difficult time selecting winners. They commented on the interesting and considered development and resolution of narratives, the technical skills involved in the camera work and the very high standard of editing. Our young filmmakers were trying to be innovative with production and presentation. The creative efforts of Year 12 Visual Arts budding filmmakers Jordan Munich and Chris Lanzon featured while the judges deliberated.
This year’s winners were:
First Prize Aidan Lorking (Year 9)
Runner Up Harrison Wallace (Year 10)
First Prize Harry Feehan, Stefan Mihranian, Michael Krizan, Quinton Crispe (Year 6)
Runner Up Darcy Keenlyside and Connor Lynch (Year 7)
The festival could not run without the very hard work of the committee members who attended weekly meetings, made posters, promotional films, spoke at assemblies and in homerooms, organised the running schedule, judging panels and set up the gym for screening.
A special thanks goes to the Year 11 boys who showed commitment and leadership in bringing the festival together. Thanks also to Ms Foord and Ms Waters for judging the competition.

The 2018 Market Day ‘Experience’ for Year 9 Commerce students was another great success with 20 businesses going head-to-head over two days providing a tempting variety of food for their customers. Students learnt first-hand the need to plan their business’ finances, marketing and operations, working collaboratively with business partners, and problem-solving under pressure.
These invaluable experiences would not be possible without the hard work of Ms Colefax, Mr Damo, the dedicated College Maintenance Team and wonderful parent volunteers over the two days. Your collective efforts are all greatly appreciated.
Most importantly, just over $3000 was raised and will be donated to St Mary’s Primary School Bowraville. Congratulations to the students who made both days so successful and educationally important.

Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Adventurous Journey
Over the weekend a number of our Year 9 students completed a Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Adventurous Journey. The boys hiked from North Turramurra to Mt Ku-Ring-Gai and then caught the train to Brooklyn. They camped at Brooklyn dam and then hiked back to Cowan. Congratulations to the students that have now completed the Adventurous Journey component of their award.
Thanks must go to Mr Donnelly and also to Miss Armstrong, one of our student teachers, for their assistance with this activity.
Students wishing to participate in the College Duke of Edinburgh program need to be at least 14 years of age and need to discuss the process with Miss Manga. Further information can be found at:

Callum’s presentation of “The Average Man” was compelling, captivating and a credit to his hard work and dedication. Thank you to Ms Penny Lindley, our College Drama Teacher, for her guidance, support and teaching of all our HSC Drama students.
AMEB RESULTS: TEACHING MUSIC THROUGH A VISIBLE LEARNING LENS: Often our best teachers are students of College. Last week we were thrilled to receive news that Year 9 Elective Music student, Christopher Bendall received Honours for his AMEB 8th Grade Piano for Leisure Examination. What better way to share Christopher’s achievement than to invite him to perform for a Year 7 music class. Stage 4 music students are studying the inventions of the Classical Period, including the piano. Christopher’s performance allowed younger students to see and hear the beauty of this amazing instrument. Thank you and congratulations to Christopher on his achievements.
