Football

Dear Parents and Players,

It was another tough week for St Pius X Football against St Pat's; however, two strong performances make the 16B (2-1 victory) and 14B (1-0 victory) equal teams of the week.  Hopefully teams can turn around their results leading into the semi finals.

This weekend sees both home and away fixtures against a variety of opposition so please check the times carefully.  Please note that the 13B and 2nd XI have substantial travel time so please keep this in mind when planning your departure. Fields can be found at the locations below.  Good luck to all teams.

  • Wentworth Park: (Inside the Dog Track) Wattle St, Ultimo
  • St Andrew’s Oval: Western Ave & Cadigal Ln, Camperdown
  • Blue Mountains Grammar: Matcham Avenue Wentworth Falls NSW 2782
  • St Greggs: 100 Badgally Rd, Gregory Hills NSW 2557

FOOTBALL CLUB NEWS

The St Pat’s round presented quite a few of our teams with a challenging weekend;  however, we are well placed to have a record number of teams in the Semis after this week’s final round so good luck – play hard!

Have you booked your seat at the Trivia night?  It is only 2 weeks away.  All funds go towards the Clubs across the College so your boys benefit directly.

You can book your tickets for the Trivia Night -  or if you can't make it on the night, you can make a donation - by going to the P&F website:  http://pandf.spx.nsw.edu.au/

We had some great action photos last week and this week we ask for game photos from the 13D,  14C & 16B teams  for the weekly ‘Full Time’ flyer.  Send your photos to footballspx@gmail.com    - save this to your phone and upload those photos as soon as you take them.  We need the photos in by Sunday afternoon.

From the Rugby Development Officer

"Great to Hear"

When our senior and most experienced coaches praise their teams then you know we are on the right lines in developing rugby at St Pius X College.

15a won 51-0 based on a confident and committed start from the whole team. We eliminated mistakes from our game with patience and control at the breakdown to set up many excellent team tries. All 23 players contributed to an excellent team win. (Mr Casey)

16As Played their best rugby of the season. (Mr Pawlak)  Courtney, Findlay, O’Neil and Smith were all on top of their game in a committed team effort.

13 A’, B’ and Cs played with flair, patience, resilience and faith in each other. (Mr Olson) Going in to this week’s fixtures against St Augustine’s, Cs and Bs are leading their comps, As are 2nd.

14As are a talented and skilful side and they keep going right to the final whistle. Bryn Mendel and Hunter Bird were very prominent, but it was Tim St John's effective work at the tackle contest that caught the eye in a great team performance.

On a day when we beat St Pat’s 9–1 it is important to reflect on our approach to playing the game at St Pius X College. We have spirit far more than any other school I’ve seen. Now we are beginning to play a running support based game and the enjoyment is evident for all to see.  Our three Opens teams all had dominating wins - they can really play some great footy.

Finally it’s good to see we are getting C teams on to the field a reflection of more players wanting to play.  Our 14 Cs are a genuine C team and came very close to winning in the opening game on Saturday, with a couple of late scores sealing their fate. The Steinman Hour is a joy to behold. This team plays to an array of calls that would challenge any International code-breaker. Personally I like Chicken Dinner-Seagulls, and the more traditional “get 'im Archie”.

Great to see so much enthusiasm and enjoyment.  Well done to everyone.
