Mr R Russo - College Counsellor
This week Dr Prue Salter from Enhanced Learning Educational Services (www.enhanced-learning.net) ran a study skills session with Year 7 and 8 students. In the Year 7 session, students evaluated their approach to school so far and identified areas for improvement. Students looked at ideas to help them be more organised and how to use their diary as a planning tool. Year 7 was also introduced to the concept of study notes and the 3 steps to studying effectively in high school. Year 8 students reviewed the diary planning principles and looked at the concept of completing two half hour blocks of schoolwork each night. If students do not have any homework, then they work on assignments and after that comes independent learning: reading ahead in the text, doing extra questions or research, making study notes.
On Monday 8th August, from 6.30-8pm in the College Gymnasium, Dr Salter will conduct the next stage of the Study Skills Program. All Year 7 parents and students (and those Year 8 parents and students who missed out last year) are encouraged to attend this valuable night. The material covered in the evening is different to what was covered with the boys last week. Parents and students must attend together and bring a pen, highlighter and school diary. Bookings may be made through our trybooking site using this link https://www.trybooking.com/216668
All secondary students at our school also have access to a great study skills website to help students develop their skills. Go to www.studyskillshandbook.com.au and enter the username: spx and the password: 25success and start improving your results today! Parents can also find extra study skills tips on the following website: http://studyskillstoptipsparents.com/
Students might also like to do the quiz below to work out what they can do to
improve their approach to their studies and their results.
