Social Justice

Edmund Rice Camps
(see photo below)
During the second week of last holidays I was lucky enough to participate in Edmund Rice Camps, a voluntary organisation which provided a week of activities and entertainment for children from marginalised and disadvantaged backgrounds. Although the camps are dedicated entirely to the children, team leaders such as myself have gained a real sense of community and connection to social justice in such a rewarding and easily accessible week. The children exuded boundless energy and I thoroughly recommend all students to consider Edmund Rice Camps in the future, whether it is for community service hours or even to simply be a kid again

This Friday at lunchtime the Edmund Rice Society will again run their Fair Trade stall. The stall sells 55g blocks of Cadbury Fair Trade chocolate. Fair trade chocolate means that the cocoa farmers who produce the raw ingredient are receiving a fair price for their cocoa, thus not being exploited. The society buys this chocolate for $1 and sells it for $2 with all profits going to Callan Services in Papua New Guinea. The Edmund Rice Society members from Years 5 to 10 will be running the stall.
40 Hour Famine
