College Commencement Mass
Loving God,
This season of Lent calls us to have a change of heart,
to turn back to you to receive your love and mercy.
Flood me with your light this Lent,
and bring your healing and peace into my struggles and worries.
Give me the courage to face my shortcomings,
knowing that you welcome me with open arms when I return to you.
Draw me into your divine mystery
so that I can be open to the new life which you freely offer me at Easter.
Amen.
Today all students participated in an Ash Wednesday Ceremony and received the ashes. This is a time throughout the Church for personal prayerful renewal.

I share with you an extract from Fr Jim McKeon, our new Parish Priest, regarding Lent.
“As we begin the Season of Lent this week with Ash Wednesday, we are invited to take up some kind of fasting. What is the point of fasting? What is the merit of giving up something harmless you enjoy, like chocolate or coffee? Firstly, we can train ourselves to be masters of our desires. This is counter-cultural. Our consumer culture tells us to have everything we want, and have it now. Training ourselves by abstinence and fasting to go without something pleasurable helps to develop our willpower to overcome the more difficult addictions which can plague us.
Secondly, this can be an experience of solidarity with the poor, to which Pope Francis exhorts us. If we do a more substantial fast by missing a meal and feeling hungry, we can reflect on what it is like for the billion people in the world who are hungry, but not by choice.
Thirdly, our fasting can make space for God in our lives. If, like many people, you are time poor then giving up a favourite TV show or form of digital entertainment can make the space for quiet, for prayer, and for reflecting. I often give up Youtube for Lent. “
The College is also collecting again for our major fundraising for PROJECT COMPASSION. Please send along a donation with your son. There is a collection each day during Lent in Homeroom.
On Tuesday 13th February the College Commencement Mass was led by Fr Jim McKeon in Our Lady of Dolours Parish Church. Our community offered all that will be in our school year to God and asked for a blessing on each one of us and our families for the year ahead.

Please find attached my welcome to the community
