Prayer
God of life, may this school year be filled with academic and spiritual growth. May we each be willing to help others. Help us to come to know Jesus better and follow the example of love that he shared. Give us the strength and faith to make his love known here on earth.
At O’Connor Ash Wednesday is celebrated in the De La Salle Chapel. Year 10 students will join St Mary’s students for the Ash Wednesday service at the Cathedral.
All students will receive the blessed ashes. Christians have traditionally used ashes as an external sign of repentance. On Ash Wednesday a cross made from the ashes is marked on the forehead with the words “Repent and believe in the Gospel”
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fasting (one full meal for those who have completed their 18th year until the beginning of their 60th year) and abstinence (no meat for those who have completed their 14th year).
The College canteen will not be selling meat products on these days.
ASH Wednesday
Ash Wednesday falls on February 18th. It marks the beginning of Lent. Lent is the 40 days of preparation for Easter. We prepare for Easter by abstinence, alms giving and prayer. It is a time when we focus on human mortality and sin transformed by the redemptive love of God in Christ.
Cross and Dux Ceremony
Many thanks to O’Connor’s ex Captains who passed on the cross and the responsibility of leadership to the current Captains . The College was treated to a stirring speech on leadership by staff member and Lasallian Youth Minister, Miss Olivia Moore. The captains revealed the 2018 theme “Oh The Places You Will Go!” encouraging students to take an active part in making O’Connor a vibrant catholic school.
