Western CHS Athletics

On Friday 28 July a number of Cowra High School students who had progressed from the school's Athletics Carnival to the next stage, travelled with their parents to Dubbo to compete in the Western CHS athletic trials at Barden Park.  It was a fantastic sunny day where all Cowra High students represented their school with pride whilst they demonstrated their exceptional athletic abilities throughout the day in both the track and field events.  All students performed to their absolute best with many breaking their own personal bests on the day.

At the conclusion of the carnival, Cowra High has 6 students who have qualified for the State Athletic Championships which will be held at Sydney in September.

Congratulations to the following students:

Tayla Garratt (Javelin & Discus)

Mikelli Garratt (Javelin & Shot Put)

Samuel Long (1500m & 800m)

Daniel Britten (Long Jump)

Jacob Haeata (800m)

Brahe-Ashlie Reid (800m)

Futsal

The first week of August this term had two of our Futsal teams – Under 14’s Boys and Under 16’s girls travelling to Sydney to compete in the State Futsal Championships, where they played against a number of schools in the state at the Penrith Valley Regional Sports Stadium.

The Under 14’s boys were off to a great start in the competition with a 1-0 win to Katoomba High School and then a 3-3 draw with Elizabeth Macarthur.  The third game was a tough challenge for the boys where they ended up with a 4-1 loss to Caringbah High School.  Overall, the boys just missed out on making it into the finals by coming 3rd due to another 2-2 draw to International Grammar School.  Goal scorers of the day were Patrick Dun, Darcy Callaghan and Bevan Foxall.

The girls also started the day with two great wins however just missed out on the finals when they came up against Endeavour Sports High School. Despite just missing out on the finals, all players had a great time demonstrating their exceptional sporting and team work skills throughout the whole day.  The girl's goal scorers for the day were Ginger Oliver, Jacqueline Dresser and Chloe Lanham.

Well done and congratulations to all students for each demonstrating exceptional sportsmanship qualities and representing Cowra High School with pride on the day!

University Shield

Cowra HIgh's 16's boys travelled to Newcastle last week to play against Callaghan College.  The boys played a good game but unfortunately went down 38 -10.
