Assistant Principal's Report

Student Reports - update

I was overwhelmed by the response from our parent community who were interested in looking at our new reporting system and providing feedback. This feedback has provided us with a clear understanding of what parents want from their students' reports, how we can deliver this and also how we can better support families in understanding their child's achivements and areas for growth.

Over the course of Term 2, as we get closer to the new student reports being made available on Compass we will be sending out information on the new reports. I would encourage all families to take the time to look over this information to better prepare for the reports being released. We will also hold a parent information session next term to outline what the reports will look like and take questions.

School Camping Program

I wrote a little while ago about our school camping program and how we were looking to update our program. We have now booked our 2020 camps and our camping program is outlined here:

 Year 3/4Year 5/6
Odd Year (2019,2021, etc)Camp ManyungSovereign Hill
Even Year (2020, 2022, etc)Camp JungaiWaratah Beach Surf Camp

Both of our new camps come highly recommended and offer unique experiences for our students. Camp Jungai is an outdoor education camp, with a focus on learning about our country's indigenous heritage. Students will learn from indigenous leaders, local to the area, and have hands-on experiences which deepen their understanding of our country's rich history.

Waratah Beach camp will provide our students with the opportunity to push themselves out of their comfort zone with a new skill, being surfing. This is one element of the camp, which also gives them an opportunity to experience outdoor activities.

End of Term

As always it has been a very busy term of school, so busy it really seems to have flown past! It has been great to see students achieving so many wonderful things and making connections in their classrooms and beyond. Term 2 is taking shape and we have a lot of exciting events happening, including camps, open nights, new student reports.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Shaun for all of his work at Marlborough Primary over his time here. He has led our students and staff incredibly well and the school is better for his time here. We will be holding a special assembly on Friday afternoon this week to farewell Shaun (details are still being finalised, however at this stage, we are looking at a 2 pm start) so it would be wonderful to see as many parents there to wish him well. We will send out a Compass new item confirming the details once they are known.

I am looking forward to being able to support our learning community in the role of Acting Principal next term. The work that we have been doing to improve student learning outcomes will continue and, as a school, we will continue to grow each individual student to be their personal best.

Lastly, I wish all of our students a restful break over the holidays, and to stay safe. For those families who are using it as an opportunity to get away, stay safe on the roads - I always think that as long as you get there it doesn't matter how long it takes - and enjoy some special time as a family.

We will see everyone on Tuesday April 22nd for the start of Term 2.
