HPV MARYBOROUGH

HPV

Our most electrifying race ever…….

The HPV team raced in Victoria’s biggest event of the year, Maryborough. We took 3 teams with us, Speed Demons, our Development team, the Dinky Dots, our year 8 all girls team, and Xpected, the senior team. The vehicles looked amazing, the kids were pumped and we were as ready as we were ever going to be. Everything ran very smoothly thanks to the fantastic support of our parents who give up 5 days of their time to help set up and run the camp, doing everything from cooking, dishes, repairs to the vehicles, helping out in pits, and bringing ice and icy poles. Special thanks go out to Susan, Wes, Paul, Kerrie, Keith, Mandy, Hendrick, Daniel, Fiona, Sam, Greg, Ross and Jill.

Our Students were amazing as always. You will not find a more genuine ‘team’ than ours. We have students from year 7 through to year 12, but to stand and watch them together you would think they were all from the same year and had been friends forever. The level of support and ‘mateship’ that exists between them is unbelievable, and very special.

All of the teams performed well in all 3 aspects of the event: Design and construction, Presentations and the number of laps. Xpected had a technical problem which took it off the track for nearly 3 hours in the nights (a huge shout out to the G Trikes boys who came to our rescue at 2am!!!), but the team pulled together and completed a very respectable 398 laps. Speed Demons had no major issues or crashes and finished 14th out of 31 in their category with 397 laps. Dinky Dots finished 3rd in the Open age group All female team which was a phenomenal effort for 7 year 8 girls up against teams of 8 year 10,11 and 12 girls. They completed 409 laps which is 100 more than last year.

A special mention to Rachelle and Clancy  who have assisted with all aspects of getting the vehicles ready for the race, supported the teams in getting through scrutineering, were in the Pits helping out and gave the vehicles beautiful shiny paint work. Also to G Trikes who continue to help and support us with our vehicles…. We look forward to adding another G Trike to our family soon for our new year 7’s coming in 2018.

We say a sad goodbye to Alex Young who has just completed Year 12. He started with HPV in year 7 and has been a key player in the team ever since. All of our team members look up to Alex with respect and appreciation for what he does. Alex always has time for the younger students and I know they will genuinely miss him. We hope he will set up a community team next year and will continue to be a part of the Mount Eliza Racing Team.

The weekend ended with a bang, but you will have to find one of the team to ask about that……………

We would like to express our genuine thanks to the local businesses who continue to support us with donations of food, it is greatly appreciated by all.

Tully’s for our fruit and Vegetables

Coles for our non-perishable items and snacks

Village meats and Gourmet meats for our meat

Brumby’s for our bread

Village fruits for our bananas

So ends another successful year…. On to the next… bring your green hats, leave your black hats and camels at home and let’s make the next year even bigger!!!!

A very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
