Sped. Corner

From Cameron M:

Hello Fellow Falcons,

Welcome back to the grind! I thought it appropriate to ease back into our work after a week off with something both educational yet therapeutic. Simply put, I’d like to talk about being nice. I believe that positivity is an essential part of what we do and its value cannot be understated.

I recently had the opportunity to be part of a 4th grade community circle with the topic being “what would we like to see changed in our community”. What started out being an enjoyable 20 minutes, turned out to be a profound and unforgettable session. I can’t put into words, the feelings that were shared, and the anguish that these kiddos felt in their neighborhoods. As I listened to them, some crying, I realized that there was one common theme that they all had. “If we were nicer, if we collectively cared more, then maybe change could happen.” This reminded me of the famous saying by Gandhi that says, “Be the change you wish to see in the world”. This is my challenge to you. Be the change that you want to see in your kids. Below is a great video on this topic and how one positive act can have a ripple effect. I hope that this connects with you as that 4th grade class connected with me. Have a fantastic week!
