Word of the Month: Responsibility
Dear team,
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a fantastic Fall Break. With October well underway, it seems like the holidays are just an eye blink away. With everything we need to accomplish, and all the goals we have set for ourselves, it's important that we remain focused on creating and refining our learning environment to create the optimal conditions for learning. We all believe our students deserve to learn in a welcoming and safe community where their individuality is honored, and where they feel safe enough to take risks. I've spent this past week reflecting on my conversations with our scholars. As professionals, we show-up every day to do what's best for our students. I want to always push myself and each other and really break down what it's like for our students on a daily basis. With so much going on in the world, my top goal is for students to always see our school as a place that they want to be. October is anti-bullying month. The week of October 15th is officially stand up for others week. I feel like I've seen things happen at our school and scholars either remain quiet or worse participate in making another scholar feel bad about himself or herself. As we return from a great week off, let's refocus our efforts on our classroom environments and resetting our expectations. It is still early in the year, and we can make some big gains towards creating a classroom culture that is cohesive. What ideas do you have? What can we do as a school to encourage the students to support each other?
"Remember: everyone in the classroom has a story that leads to misbehavior or defiance. 9 times out of 10, the story behind the misbehavior won’t make you angry. It will break your heart."
