From the Acting Principal

Principal's Report

It’s been a very busy few weeks at Rosehill Secondary College!

As mentioned in the previous edition we have competed most of our obligations regarding the Grade 6 to Year 7 transition.  The process now is to be conducted centrally. We are planning for an intake of 200 students.  This allows us to run a comprehensive program for our students and ensure we can cater for the broad range of student capabilities and interests.  At Rosehill we pride ourselves as a school that has a strong academic focus.  We have many enrichment and enhancement programs that cater to our high ability students and also provide exceptional opportunities for students across all key learning areas - Visual and Performing Arts, Music Program, Sports, Languages, Technology, Interpersonal Learning Programs and Science.

In recent weeks our Year 10 Teen Aid program has successfully been implemented.  This program highlights a major factor students need to deal with in this modern world, mental health. It was great to see a large number of parents attend the parent Teen Aid sessions.  An open mindset means we can always learn more; knowledge is power and we continue to celebrate student and staff success.  Recently, Mr Hayakawa was recognised for presenting to over 400 Japanese language teachers and displaying his expertise and knowledge to improve the delivery of Japanese across Victoria. Similarly, Ms Gulbenkian was acknowledged by IN2Science for her work in assisting student engagement in science through a peer mentoring program, supported by The University of Melbourne, RMIT, Monash, Swinburne and Latrobe University.  Ms De Haan in Administration has been successful in gaining a scholarship for her Business Leadership Course.  Congratulations to all!

Over the course of this week and early next week students will be asked to complete an anonymous online survey about their schooling experience at Rosehill Secondary College. We are gathering information  regarding experiences thus far this year and in particular this term.

It is vitally important that our students take the time to reflect and answer these questions sensibly and with thought.  The data collected from these surveys is significant and is used to help us determine the key areas of the College we think needs improvement.  A significant component of the current Strategic Plan (2019-2021) is developed with data such as this as a guide. Please take the time to have a conversation with your child about their thoughts and encourage them to reflect on their experience at Rosehill this year.
