Year 9/10 AFL Carnival

Boys' Footy

On Tuesday some of the Year Nine students, including myself attended a Years Nine/Ten footy carnival. We competed against four other schools in shortened games throughout the day. It was quite challenging for both the girls and boys teams as all of the Year Ten students that were going to play were unable to, due to Work Experience. It was great to get a team together at such short notice, so thank you Mr McLean for making sure that we had enough players. 

Low on numbers, our team lost the first few games, but thanks to an amazing goal by Ben Hannig, our team managed to make the semi-final. Unfortunately, we lost, but it was a great team effort. Thanks to Louis Stratico for coaching us on the day, and Heath Ravenhill for umpiring, it was a fun day.

Girls' Footy

Tuesday was a high-spirited day for the Year Nine girls as we had a day playing footy against other schools. Regardless of the lack of wins, I know that every girl who signed up enjoyed the opportunity. Each tackle and point was admired, especially our first goal from Ella Belfield. I heard a lot of girls saying that they only wish these carnivals could be a monthly event but we will all get another chance next year. Playing in the carnival made a lot of us eager to join clubs for next year. 

Thanks to our coaches, including Lily Wilsher-Saa, umpires and all the staff involved in the organisation. I know we all appreciated it immensely.

Great Southern Griffins Basketball - NOMINATIONS

Player nominations for the inaugural season of the Great Southern Griffins Basketball Club close at 9.00am on Friday 6 August.  The online nomination form can be accessed here. 

Please feel free to share this with anyone in the community who is interested in playing.

The Club will be transitioning to new uniforms, however most teams this season will be using the current design.  If you have uniforms that will not be required this season, please return them to the Uniform Shop. We look forward to a wonderful season of basketball.
