COVID Update

The ongoing impact of COVID-19 on people has been undeniable. Since the pandemic took hold at the start of 2020, school leaders, teachers and support staff around the world have been required to deal with additional stressors, challenges and change.

In reviewing my notes from last term, I used the phrase “tension is in the air”, “people are somewhat anxious and non-trusting” due to the lurking presence of COVID. This tension still remains, yes, we are lucky at the moment living where we live, but there is no doubt that we live in the shadow of COVID. The darkness created by not knowing what lies ahead ignites different emotions.

As a staff we can continue to prepare for what lies ahead and embrace the situation that we are in. Being part of community assists us to focus on what we can control, rather than on what you cannot.

The Department of Education has advised schools to ensure they are best placed to continue the provision of education to students if required to move to online learning.  The School is well-prepared to undertake online learning, should this occur.  Staff have undertaken refresher training and we are working on improving the previous format of GSG@Home.

Year Six 2022

The School is embarking on new initiatives for Year Six for 2022. The Year Six programme will be undertaken by Head of Junior School, Mr Ken Raven.  More information on this exciting new initiative can be found in Mr Raven’s article in this issue of the Anchor.

Great Southern Gathering: Afternoon Tea with Danny Green

Friday 24 September

Under the organisation of the P&F, the School is delighted to launch ticket sales for its inaugural Great Southern Gathering event, an Afternoon Tea with Danny Green. Celebrate the end of a busy term and gather your table of ten (tickets are $35 per person), enjoy a sumptuous afternoon tea and be inspired as Danny shares his stories of humility, resilience, sacrifices and strong work ethic leading to success in his boxing career and beyond. Learn more about his highly successful anti-violence movement which led to the now well recognised Cowards Punch Campaign.

This event is open to the wider community and provides a huge opportunity for networking and socialising. We are seeking GSG sponsors for this highly anticipated event. To express your interest or for further information please contact Community Relations Manager, Mrs Julia Bairstow, via julia.bairstow@gsg.wa.edu.au

As part of Danny’s visit, he will also be speaking to students prior to the Afternoon Tea on issues dealing with resilience, self-respect and confidence. It will be wonderful for parents to listen to Danny and relate to some of his life experiences at home with their children.
