Inquiry in Term Three
This term, we are exploring two exciting areas as part of our student-led inquiry.
The units are: Package Me and Game On.
Package Me: For the first half of the term, students will be exploring different types of packaging and using their findings to design a package that will safely deliver three biscuits to Mr Kitch.
Game On: In the second half of the term, students will explore coding and game making using digital technologies.
Both units will challenge our student's problem solving, team-work and design skills to create a functional end product.
MATHS in Term Three
This Term in Mathematics we will be looking at the following areas of study:
- Multiplication and Division
- Subtraction
- Time
- Mass and Capacity
- Fractions
- Decimals
- Money
We are continuing our focus on automatic recall for times tables, and are extending our automatic recall to also include the related division facts of those times tables. Students who have mastered all of the times tables will begin learning the related division facts this term.
Homework for math will also include questions relevant to the learning taking place in the classroom to give our students additional practice.
Any students who have difficulty completing their math homework should speak to their classroom teacher and ask for assistance.
English in Term Three
We are continuing our dedicated approach to spelling through the Multilit program. This program delivers a systematic phonics approach, and we are seeing some wonderful growth with our students' spelling. We are looking forward to seeing more growth this term.
Our focus in our Writing sessions this term is predominantly informative text writing. Students are learning the structure of this genre and researching a variety of facts to support a variety of topics. The students are also learning that an informative text is non-fiction and requires true facts and not opinions. Some great informative pieces are in the pipeline, and we look forward to sharing some of them on here soon!
We are continuing with our Reader's Workshop model during our reading sessions. The focus during our mini lessons this term is 'Thinking Beyond the Text'. These skills include:
- Predicting
- Making Connections
- Inferring
- Synthesising
- Critiquing
- Analysing
Each class is reading the text "Mr Stink' as a mentor text to help teach the reading skills above. Mr Stink teaches the students about not judging a book by its cover. We are looking forward to diving into this new text!
‘Daydreaming schoolgirl Chloe is unhappy at home and has no friends at her new school, so she befriends a stinky homeless man and his dog in the local park. In uncovering Mr Stink's sad past, she ends up on a journey that takes her to Number 10 Downing Street and eventually brings her dysfunctional family back together again.’
Wellbeing in Term Three
This term, our wellbeing lessons will focus on learning about Growth Mindset and emotional regulation. The students will explore the concept of a growth mindset and how they can adjust their mindset to achieve their goals. They will then spend time exploring and explaining the different emotions, and learning strategies to regulate their big feelings.
Miss Tilley, Mrs Rowe, Ms Roberts and Miss Wright are looking forward to a busy and exciting Term Three.
