Foundation
‘Weather Report’ - Students are going to learn words related to weather and feel-like temperature through singing and actions. They are to continue to develop their reading skills of Kanji numbers.
‘Days of the week’ - This unit is to help the students learn about Kanji characters that convey meaning through the shapes related to real-life objects.
Year One/Two
TOKYO Olympic Mascots
During week 1, Grade 1 and 2 students enjoyed making and decorating their origami Olympic mascots (MIRAITOWA & SOMEITY) and learned the background and meaning of those official mascots. The students were surprised and excited that they were designed by primary school students in Japan!
Unit ‘Cafe’ - Students are going to learn a dialogue involving shop-specific phrases, ordering food and drinks, and Japanese currency.
Year Three-Six: Project: Create your TOKYO Olympic Mascot
Year Three-Six students are going to be introduced to the process of creating Olympic mascots for Tokyo Olympics by brainstorming the culture, native animals, and the language. This is a project shared with 5 other schools under the UDEC Japanese program. The best mascot designs are going to be awarded at the end of the term!
Year Three/Four
‘Sports KURABU’ - Students are to learn about popular sports in Japan and compare those with Australia. They are going to make an inquiry about the sports clubs they are interested in and respond to the answers (reactions) in Japanese.
‘Hiragana Belt Challenge’ - This fun and intensive Hiragana recognition challenge aims to help students earn their belt certificates in Hiragana Dojo!
Year Five/Six
‘Japanese Amazing Race’ - Students are to brush up on their problem-solving skills and Japanese skills through the weekly missions. Those missions involve all the macro skills; reading, writing, listening and speaking in Japanese.
‘School Events’ - Students are going to learn about major school events in Japan through meaningful presentations and videos made by Japanese students.
