School Fees reminder

Thank you those families who have recently made payment of fees or who have set up direct debit of fees. The regular payment of school fees enables us to keep improving the resources for our school and regular payments are always appreciated. The balance owing this year is currently $155,328. This is valuable fee collection that enables us to improve facilities for your children such as our new 3/4 collaborative and flexible furniture. If you are still to make a payment this year, please organise this as a matter of fairness and justice.

Swimming

The swimming program from Prep-6 is scheduled to start in week 2 of Term 3. This is a compulsory program and we are lucky to be one of the first schools to use the new aquatic centre very close by. Please see Operoo for all details and permissions. The fee for swimming is $85 per student and will be added to your account this week.

Student-Led Three way Conferencing 2021

In 2021, we are inviting you and your children to take part in what is normally called 'parent/teacher conferences'. We are changing the voice in these conversations this year so that we can further empower our learners to take charge of their learning and learn how to receive feedback about their learning. We have created a brochure for our families explaining the purpose of these conferences and we look forward to our students leading the way. Conferences are scheduled for Term 3, week 1. We hope that we can proceed by then in a face to face environment. Book online via

https://www.schoolinterviews.com.au/

  1. Tuesday 13th July 3.45-5.30pm
  2. Wednesday 14th July 2.00-7.30pm

We will be finishing school EARLY on Wednesday 14th July @ 1pm.

New Timetable

In term 3 we will be changing our daily timetable to allow for a more extended learning block in the morning and in the middle sessions. After much consultation and discussion and lots of work our new timetable will consist of the following blocks:

9.00-11.00           2 hour learning block for                                             Literacy (1 hour of reading,

1 hour of writing) with a

                               fruit break  @ 10:00am

11.00-11.30        RECESS BREAK

11.30-1.30           2 hour learning block

                               (1 hour of Numeracy and 1 hour                                of Inquiry - humanities/science                                 /civics/geography)

1.30-1.40             Lunch eating time

1.40-2.30             LUNCH BREAK

2.30-3.30             1 hour learning block                                                    (RE/SEL)

This will take a little adjustment but will allow better learning blocks in the first half of the day and a shorter afternoon. We will monitor this and guide the students into the new routine gently.

Circus Skills

The Circus skills program also begins in week 1 of Term 3. We have a busy first few weeks back but we know how important this program is to our wellbeing structures and performing arts culture. Circus skills days will be on Mondays and Tuesdays and will culminate to a concert in week 9, Thursday September 9th.

Staffing Update

We welcome Mrs. Nicola Jones to the position of STEM teacher and coach and to the Friday position in 5/6M. Nicola has visited us a couple of times now to join in sessions and familiarise herself with the Fatima routines. Nicola joins us with a wealth of experience in designing and teaching STEM and STEAM in many schools and was most recently the Leader of Curriculum at the Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne. We look forward to learning with her and learning new ideas from her .

We wish Mrs. Aley Allen every happiness as she prepares to welcome her little girl in August. Aley will be on leave for 12 months to have time with her family and to be a mum of two. Aley has been a strong and passionate educator in our STEM space, elective program and in initiating many  new and exciting programs to Fatima. We will miss you Aley.

We welcome Matt Ferguson to the Role of Leader of Student Voice

This term we started our Student Voice Action Group with our school leaders, led capably by Matt Ferguson. This is enabling student voice and agency to become more of a focus at Fatima.  There is so much work happening. Here is an update from Matt.

Student Voice

I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the 5/6 leaders this term. Although there have been some COVID hiccups, it has been a productive term. Our Lady of Fatima has developed a Student Representative Council which includes all the grade 5/6 leaders.

The leaders have arranged lunchtime clubs, which are due to start in early term 3. They are in the planning stage of developing Rough Sleeping Packs. Students gave their opinions on the development of the Healthy Eating Policy and food items they would like to see in our School Canteen.

The School House Captains also ran a successful Prep Buddy activity where they choose and ran an activity that both the year 6 and preps could enjoy together.

Kind regards,

Matthew Ferguson

Providing our students with access to a helpline especially in the holiday period is important.
