We are delighted to welcome our new wellbeing nurse, Hannah Blumgart.
Hannah is a registered nurse who will be working across our school, with our learning and support team, to help connect students and families with health and community services. She is here to help support students and families in addressing health needs, coordinate appropriate assessments and assist with referrals to any needed medical or social services.
This is a new role and we will be sharing Hannah with Belmore Boys HS and Belmore North PS. She will be available at Canterbury Girls HS on Tuesdays and Friday mornings. If you would like to speak to Hannah, or any other member of our learning and support / wellbeing team, please contact the Deputy Principal for your student's Year, and a referral will be made to Hannah.
This isn’t a First Aid position. Hannah is employed by the Local Health District and is one of around 100 similar roles which are being introduced in schools across NSW in a partnership between NSW Health and the Department of Education

Students over 14 may wish to contact Hannah directly however we actively encourage all families to discuss concerns. The WHIN Coordinator will encourage any students who contact them to discuss their concerns with their parents/carers.
I would like to welcome Mr Jonathan Jankowski who is acting in the role of Head teacher PDHPE for the remainder of semester 2. He will start next Monday August 2. Mr Jankowski is replacing Ms Dunn who has moved to Penshurst Girls HS as Deputy Principal. Please make him welcome in Google Classroom and Zoom/Team lessons if you are in his classes. Welcome to Mr Brenner also joins us in PDHPE, as Ms Hunter is on leave. In CAPA staff, welcome to Ms Overton, who replaces Ms Le for the remainder of Semester 2.
Thank you to Ms Jones who filled in as Head Teacher in PDHPE for weeks 1-3 this term. Also thank you to Ms Burgess and Ms Venkatesan who have relieved as Head Teacher Secondary Studies and Deputy Principal while Mrs Andrews has been on several weeks leave. Welcome back to Mrs Andrews!

Congratulations to Year 9 student Gaia Hardge, the Winner of the AFC#2 Robyn Chaplin Tournament.
Fencing is an Olympic sport Consisting of three disciples, Foil, Sabre and Epee. I fence Sabre which is fast, furious and all about reaction and technique. I train locally with Marrickville Marauders who are always looking for more girls to join our club and be part of the fun!
Winning AFC#2 Robyn Chaplin Tournament is my biggest achievement yet as it wasn't just one achievement to me, it was 3. It was my first ever Open National Title, I finally beat my biggest rival whom I have been rivals with since we were 11 years old and in doing so I am now ranked number 1 in Opens Women's Sabre in Australia. This Win was not a single bit easy but no win is, I struggled early in the day dropping points, losing bouts and had little victories going into direct eliminations. I had to work my way to the top, fighting to get every single point. I still made major mistakes but corrected them straight away which allowed me to be on my game and win my Semi Final and Final. I have faced injuries and mind blocks over the past two years and achieving this national title showed me that despite all else, if I am determined and willing to work hard and listen to my coach I can win! - Gaia Hardge, Year 9.
