Student & School  Achievements and Communications

Gaia Hardge, Winner at AFC#2 Robyn Chaplin Tournament

Welcome to our Wellbeing Nurse!

We are delighted to welcome our new wellbeing nurse, Hannah Blumgart.

Hannah is a registered nurse who will be working across our school, with our learning and support team, to help connect students and families with health and community services. She is here to help support students and families in addressing health needs, coordinate appropriate assessments and assist with referrals to any needed medical or social services.

This is a new role and we will be sharing Hannah with Belmore Boys HS and Belmore North PS. She will be available at Canterbury Girls HS on Tuesdays and Friday mornings. If you would like to speak to Hannah, or any other member of our learning and support / wellbeing team, please contact the Deputy Principal for your student's Year, and a referral will be made to Hannah.

This isn’t a First Aid position. Hannah is employed by the Local Health District and is one of around 100 similar roles which are being introduced in schools across NSW in a partnership between NSW Health and the Department of Education

Students over 14 may wish to contact Hannah directly however we actively encourage all families to discuss concerns. The WHIN Coordinator will encourage any students who contact them to discuss their concerns with their parents/carers.

1st at AFC#2 Robyn Chaplin Tournament

Congratulations to Year 9 student Gaia Hardge, the Winner of the AFC#2 Robyn Chaplin Tournament.

Fencing is an Olympic sport Consisting of three disciples, Foil, Sabre and Epee. I fence Sabre which is fast, furious and all about reaction and technique. I train locally with Marrickville Marauders who are always looking for more girls to join our club and be part of the fun!

Winning AFC#2 Robyn Chaplin Tournament is my biggest achievement yet as it wasn't just one achievement to me, it was 3. It was my first ever Open National Title, I finally beat my biggest rival whom I have been rivals with since we were 11 years old and in doing so I am now ranked number 1 in Opens Women's Sabre in Australia. This Win was not a single bit easy but no win is, I struggled early in the day dropping points, losing bouts and had little victories going into direct eliminations. I had to work my way to the top, fighting to get every single point. I still made major mistakes but corrected them straight away which allowed me to be on my game and win my Semi Final and Final. I have faced injuries and mind blocks over the past two years and achieving this national title showed me that despite all else, if I am determined and willing to work hard and listen to my coach I can win! - Gaia Hardge, Year 9.

SAM Update

Welcome back to term 3.  It’s unfortunate we have not been able to have some of the students return yet and have missed some important events e.g., NAIDOC week.  Hopefully the students can come back soon, especially Year 12 (who had to deal with lockdown as Year 11 students).

Invoices – if you would like your invoice sent to you, please let me know.

Absences – please accept my apologies for the any errors that may have occurred.   We try our best not to have errors unfortunately with the current situation, they do occur.

Year 12 Trials – wishing all of Year 12 all the very best for their exams.

Hamilton - this event has been cancelled.   Please note if you paid by cash or EFTPOS and have requested a refund, this will take a couple of weeks due to COVID19 restrictions.

BStreet – this event will go ahead.  It will be presented via zoom.

Thanks:

Caregivers/students – for supporting the school with your positive comments and ensuring students are engaged in their work.   It has been fantastic to hear how committed students are to their learning

Teachers – for all their hard work to ensure the students are supported through Learning From Home.

Executive – for their leadership in supporting staff and students.

SASS – for their continued effort to ensure the student needs come first.  Unfortunately, only one SASS can be onsite, however the rest of us are working from home.

Hopefully by the next newsletter covid restrictions will ease and we get to celebrate Year 12 last term at school.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need assistance with any administrative matters

Take care.
