Cyber Safety Webinars for parents & carers
Recently at SKiPPS we have had to deal with a couple of incidents involving students using devices and social media inappropriately outside of school.
The issue of using technology safely and appropriately is one of the biggest challenges that people growing up today will face (and one that most parents didn't have to navigate at such young ages). Various social media and gaming platforms provide wonderful opportunities for connections, fun and collaboration but involve serious risks of harm and exposure to inappropriate content.
As a school we are always looking to educate our students in this area but this is a constantly shifting challenge as platforms, technology and tastes change.
As parents and carers, you face the incredibly difficult task of balancing demands to access technology and social media with the concerns of supervision and keeping your children safe.
Following input from School Council, we are currently exploring ways we can provide support to our families. We are seeking to run some appropriate student and parent information sessions later in the year, along the same lines as our well received sex and sexuality education program in term 1.
In the meantime,, we will be using the newsletters this term to share with you the wide range of resources and supports that exist for families to keep their children cyber safe.
TheeSafety Commissioner website has a great range of reading and resources designed to help parents. In particular there are some upcoming webinars which sound great.
These live webinars explore the latest research and they are a great way to learn how you can help your child develop the skills to be safer online.
All sessions are delivered by eSafety's expert education and training team.
