Year 7

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD,

“plans to prosper you and not to harm you,

plans to give you hope and a future”.

Jeremiah 29:11

It’s hard to believe that we are almost through the first half of Year 7. I can vividly remember the first day of Year 7 this year, Friday 29 January. Just over 160 very nervous and timid new students gathered in the Mary Dalton Hall, most of them feeling overwhelmed by the challenge of a new school. Beginning secondary school is one of the most significant developmental milestones in any young person’s life, and it is our privilege at Kilbreda to guide and support our Year 7 students as they face this challenge.

The students have taken up many of the rich and varied opportunities to participate in the life of Kilbreda. There has been netball, athletics, Drama Club, volleyball, Art Club, Year 7 Camp (featuring the best dancing this side of Hollywood), 'Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical', Mathematics and Science competitions, Techbots and the Irish Club.

Some have found the transition easy, and well done to them. Others have found it difficult, but they have caring and supportive Homeroom teachers, and a supportive and kind group of girls in Year 7 who have never hesitated to support one another during the exciting journey thus far.

Each morning I see those same timid and shy girls from the first day as they stroll past my office, often carrying takeaway hot chocolates with a bagel and I marvel at how well they’ve settled in. They are safe, they belong here, and they are known and respected. Congratulations to them all!

We congratulate those girls who were presented with the College Values Awards for Semester 1:

7-70: Megan Singleton and Chloe Veneris

7-71: Sienna Davis and Michaela Riddle

7-72: Maddison Armanini and Blainee Sanford

7-73: Elizabeth Jones and Kassedy Mazur

7-74: Indiana Dickson and Bridget Monaghan

7-75: Matilda Lambert and Lauren Vong

7-76: Amelie Doreleijers and Tahlia Roberts

We wish all our Year 7 students and their families a very safe and happy Term 2 break.
