Library

It has certainly been a busy term in the Library. While lockdown meant the girls were unable to physically borrow books and use the space for study, we saw a huge uptake in the use of digital resources. The e-books and audio books have been very popular and the libguides have been widely used for study.

As librarians, we love seeing the girls visit the Library for studying, reading, playing games and cosying up to stay warm and it’s heartening to know that the students are accessing the Library remotely too. This is an invaluable skill that will take with them beyond their years at the College.

Our major highlight for the term was the 'Write a Book in a Day' competition held on Friday, 18 June. 41 girls made up seven teams and each produced a fully edited, illustrated and printed book. The girls were here from 8.00am to 8.00pm, planning, writing, printing, eating and laughing together. The stories were very creative and very contemporary; inclusive of characters from all walks of life. The books will be donated to The Children’s Hospital for children to read whilst there and we raised over $1000 for The Kids’ Cancer Project.

A very big thank you to Bernadette Kean who joined us for the day, keeping us on track and helping to organise the finer details. Also, to our wonderful technician, Di Saugy, who stayed till the end, running around taking photos, picking up pizzas and cleaning up. Thanks also to the staff who popped in to offer their support; the girls loved seeing you.

All students are encouraged to come to the Library and stock up on books for holiday reading. Parents are more than welcome to visit the Library page and ask their daughters to bring home some good books for their own reading.
