Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL)

Kilbreda College and Yarrabah School – Community Partnership

Unfortunately, COVID-19 prevented the Year 12 VCAL Senior students from attending Yarrabah School on 3 June to continue their wonderfully creative mosaic work. However, the students made the most of their last session and loved working with their buddies. The project is progressing well and there is no doubt, that we are all ‘learning with wonder’.

Here are a collection of student reflections on the partnership.

As we have become more involved in the project, we have made a positive impact on each other’s lives.

Olivia Garlick

I have enjoyed the opportunity to build connections and develop friendships.

Teagan Hyland

I have enjoyed each session as I have learned new things about each person.

Amelia Carter-Watson

Diversity is an aspect of life that we can all appreciate. It is important to spend time with people who are different as we learn from them.

Ellie Andronis

This project has been a great experience. I understand the need to find different ways to communicate a message.

Ewa Slifierz

I have enjoyed meeting new people and working as team to create a unique piece of art.

Molly Kerr

I look at things differently now and realise that we are all very similar in the way we appreciate kindness when we communicate with each other.

Ashlie Croughan

We created wonderful memories that will always be present in our mosaic display at Yarrabah.

Jasmine King

Each Thursday as I returned from Yarrabah, I felt a sense of calm and happiness.

Jerzie Vernall

I really enjoyed the time we spent together creating a mosaic piece.

Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical

The Year 11 VCAL Intermediate students have commenced their involvement in the College production, Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical. They will be responsible for designing, creating and arranging, some 'Front of House' displays.

Audience members will have the opportunity to have their photo taken in a reimagined Miss Honey’s garden. Already, the students have organised the distribution of ‘When I grow up …..’ booklets to every student at Kilbreda. We look forward to reading the many and varied responses. Throughout this project, the students will be meeting specific outcomes for Literacy, Numeracy, Personal Development Skills and Work related Skills.
