Year 9
CONDOLENCES
Our heart-felt prayers and thoughts are with Georgia Sandmann and her family on the loss of her mother, Monica, over the school holidays. Isabel (2016) and Emma (2018) are graduates of Kilbreda. May Monica Rest in Peace.
CONGRATULATIONS
We are extremely proud of the three Year 9 students who represented Victoria in Cricket National Championships over the holidays! Outstanding accomplishments! Mia Perrin, Bridget Skadiang and Erin Carroll all competed for Victoria in the July school holidays in Indoor Cricket which was held at Casey Stadium, Cranbourne.
Mia and Bridget played for 14 and under girls in Victoria Blue and Victoria White respectively. Erin played in the 17 and under Blue team. All of the girls played exceptionally well with all girls having some strong performances over the week. They competed against the other states, QLD, NSW, ACT, SA and WA.
Mia’s team won the 14 and under grand final and she was also named in the All-Star 14 and under Australian team. They only lost one game over the course of the week. Erin’s team won the 17 and under grand final beating NSW and also went undefeated over the course of the week. Erin was named in the All-star 17 and under Australian team and was also named Player of the Series.
BRIDGES TO CITY
Term 3 is an especially exciting and busy time for Year 9. The BRIDGES to City excursion entailing visits to Parliament House, the Shrine of Remembrance, the State Library, the Old Melbourne Gaol, The Treasury Building and the Royal Botanic Gardens was a resounding success.
The girls are to be commended on their adherence to uniform and behavioural expectations and a number of positive comments regarding this were shared by members of the public. Students enjoyed showing initiative in navigating their way around the city. Thank you for encouraging your daughters to wear their school uniform with pride; the girls really did look smart in their full uniforms.
SUBJECT SELECTION FOR 2020
Currently, students have been receiving information on subjects offered to them in Year 10. I hope that many of you were able to attend the Pathways Expo on Tuesday evening, which was designed for Year 9 and 10 students to focus on their pathways, subject selection and post school options.
Subject selection is an exciting time, but may also cause apprehension. This is completely normal. In previous weeks in pastoral sessions, we have examined the decision-making process and how to make the most of the resources around us in order to make informed decisions. Students’ teachers are an excellent resource to talk to, and I encourage students to talk to staff, parents and older students, brothers and sisters about the subjects on offer.
YEAR 9 SOCIAL
Planning for the much anticipated Year 9 Social on Tuesday 10 September is well under way. Many girls are excited about this event and we hope it is the positive, memorable experience it should be for all of our Year 9s. Please see below for key dates, including Learn to Dance classes at St Bede’s College and a Trivia Afternoon to be held before the dance classes commence. Parental consent is required on the PAM portal, for the trivia, dance classes and Social, so please check this in the coming week.
