Principal's Update

Our Catholic Church is currently in the Season of Ordinary Time, which are the weeks outside the seasons of Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter. Ordinary Time celebrates Jesus’ teaching and ministry and gives us time to reflect on how we live as Christians. Jesus was a teacher; a teacher who responded to the needs of people he encountered without fear and without prejudice. Throughout his ministry, he extended true hospitality by welcoming all people with an open heart and mind. As a college community, we are inspired by the life and ministry of Jesus and commit ourselves to being inclusive and welcoming of all people.

During the holidays and in these first two weeks of Term 3 there has been a range of experiences and special programs undertaken by students across the year level.  These have included a very successful Central Australia trip, Netball Victoria School Championships, Brain Bee Competition State Finals, Dante Alighieri Poetry Competition finals, Year 10 Building Bridges, Year 8 Foreshore, Year 11 Leadership Assembly and the Pathways Expo, to name a few! Many of these and other events are detailed in this newsletter. We are blessed to have such a vibrant learning community.

Tickets are now on sale for this year’s production of Mary Poppins which will be held between 15-17 August.  Students and staff have been working very hard to bring this musical to life and tickets are selling quickly. It will be a wonderful show!

We also look forward to the Past Pupils of Distinction Dinner on Friday 9 August where we will recognise past pupils who have achieved outstanding success and excellence in their field/s of endeavour, have made/are making a positive difference in the lives of others and embody the Kilbreda motto of Strength and Kindliness.  Over recent months numerous nominations were received and the College Stewardship Council acted as the selection committee.  It was a challenging process due to the number and calibre of nominations received.  The following four women were selected for induction as Past Pupils of Distinction:

Margaret (Maggie) Fitzgibbon OAM – Class of 1943

Laura John – Class of 2007

Doctor Bridie Kean – Class of 2004

Katrina Leason (née O’Donnell) dec. – Class of 1977

Should you wish to join us for what will be a wonderful evening celebrating the achievements of all nominees, tickets are available via TryBooking www.trybooking.com/BCVBA.

As students reflect upon their achievements in Semester 1 and set themselves goals for the semester ahead, we pray:

Father,

Into your hands we place our successes.

Into your hands we also place our failures,

and we pray that, through your Spirit,

we may face the challenges of life with courage and determination.

Help us to think anew and see things more broadly

than in terms of “success” and “failure”,

but focus more on “faithfulness”.

Lead us always to trust

and place ourselves confidently

in your hands.

Amen.

We Pray For...

We ask for your prayers for members of our community and their families who have recently lost loved ones:

Monica Sandmann

Mother of Georgia  (Year 9), Isabel (Past Pupil - Class of 2016) and Emma (Past Pupil - Class of 2018) Sandmann

Rebecca Sargeant

(Past Pupil - Class of 2009)

A number of Rebecca's relatives are also

past pupils of Kilbreda

We pray that our loving God hold them gently in the palm of His hand.
