JRC (Junior Resource Centre) News

Welcome back everyone!

Unfortunately due to COVID-19 density limits, the JRC is currently serving as an overflow staffroom for teachers.  Classes are still occurring in Rooms 21 and 22, but we are currently not open for student use during breaks, except for printing and borrowing/returning books.  Homework club will also not be running during this time.  Thank you for your understanding and we hope to get back to normal very soon.

Overdue Books

Just a reminder that all books borrowed before the lockdown are now overdue.  We would like to make sure that all overdue books are returned before the holidays.  Our automated reminder service has been reactivated after the lockdown, so parents please remind students to keep an eye on their emails.

ePlatform eBook and Audiobook Library

With the holidays fast approaching it is a great time to discover our fantastic eBook library.  ePlatform offers students a wide choice of eBooks and Audiobooks which can be accessed remotely 24/7.  Many of our popular print titles are available including Harry Potter, The Hunger Games and The Fault in our Stars, along with a small selection of non fiction resources.  Students can borrow books for two weeks, after which the loan is returned automatically – so no more lost and overdue books!  Audiobooks are perfect for travel and a great option for struggling readers, allowing them to experience more complex novels and story lines without the necessary reading skill, or to read along with the audio.  You can either read directly from your browser or download the ePlatform app to turn your tablet, iPad or smartphone into an eReader.

Celebrating IDAHOBIT Day on 17 May - International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia

We have a variety of LGBTQ books available in the JRC – just look for the ‘rainbow’ stickers on the spine.  You can also get a bookshelf of all of our LGBTQ books on the Genre browse widget on Smartsuite: Smartsuite > Reading Program > Genre browse widget

Everyone knows about the dare: Each week, Bryson Keller must date someone new--the first person to ask him out on Monday morning.  Few think Bryson can do it.  He may be the king of Fairvale Academy, but he's never really dated before.

Until a boy asks him out, and everything changes!

Kai Sheridan didn't expect Bryson to say yes.  So when Bryson agrees to secretly go out with him, Kai is thrown for a loop.  But as the days go by, he discovers there's more to Bryson beneath the surface, and dating him begins to feel less like an act and more like the real thing. Kai knows how the story of a gay boy liking someone straight ends.  With his heart on the line, he's awkwardly trying to navigate senior year at school, at home, and in the closet, all while grappling with the fact that this "relationship" will last only five days.  After all, Bryson Keller is popular, good-looking, and straight . . . right? Kevin van Whye delivers an uplifting and poignant coming-out love story that will have readers rooting for these two teens to share their hearts with the world and with each other.
