From the Principal

Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends

TERM 2 – Thank you!

It has been a busy and enjoyable second term of 2021.  Thank you to everyone for all of your efforts with our students, in collaborating with each other, and in working in partnership with our Frankston High School community.  I am very proud to be Principal of our wonderful learning community and have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know all of our students, parents and community members better.  Please enjoy a relaxing break over the holidays with your family and friends.  I can not wait to see you all back for the start of Term 3 and look forward to our work in continuing to improve to keep providing an outstanding education to students.

FUNDING FOR BUILDING WORKS – Your Future School

As part of the $15.13 million we have been allocated in the State Budget, we have commenced meetings and are required to submit the first stage of our proposal on Thursday 24 June.  We have received a large amount of feedback from staff, students and parents in sharing their ideas into this first stage of planning.  Thank you to everyone who completed the Your Future School survey.

WELLBEING CENTRE

Work is progressing well on our Wellbeing Centre on the 7-10 Campus.  We look forward to this new space for our  Wellbeing Team to work with our students.  We also hope to integrate this space into our new building works in the future related to the recent State Budget funding announcement.

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES

Throughout Semester 1 this year our school is engaging in professional development focused on Professional Learning Communities.  This training is facilitated by the DET (Department of Education and Training) and covers a range of topics.  We have now completed all of the modules and have commenced planning around the implementation of these in 2022.  The team participating in the training includes all of the Principal Class Team and a large number of our Leading Teachers and Learning Specialists who will lead this work with our staff.

CASUAL DRESS DAY – Butterfly Foundation

Thank you to Mrs Sarah Bahramis, Ms Alarna Summers, Mr Isaac Bakker and Mr Andrew Watson for their efforts in organising the Casual Dress Day on Friday 18 June and raising awareness of this important foundation and their work around eating disorders.  Thank you to our Student Leadership Council who organised this day and the various activities, their passion and support of great causes is something we very much admire.

PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITIONS

Thank you to Ms Georgie Long who has been working with our students as they have recently competed in state wide public speaking competitions:

  • VCAA Plain English Award: Michaela Goggin (Year 12) and Charli Evans (Year 11) competed in the competition last month, and Charli came second in their region.

EQUESTRIAN SUCCESS

Congratulations to Shae Latimer (Year 12) who competed with both of her horses, ‘Classic Image of Sefton’ and ‘Chosen One’, at the Interschool State Championships.  The event had three phases; led, ridden and rider.  Shae was successful on both horses, qualifying them each to be State representatives at Nationals which will take place near the end of the year.  It is extremely difficult to qualify one horse for Nationals, much less two.  We wish Shae all the best as she prepares for the National competition.
