Boomerang Bags!

Boomerang Bags is a non-for profit, nation-wide organisation that started in Sydney. They promote community involvement in creating useable tote bags out of recycled materials. The Brighton Secondary Environment Team has partnered with Boomerang Bags Bayside, to run a lunchtime program.  This allows our students to learn how to make these bags, as well as be a part of the bigger intersection of textile waste. Our first bag making bee was on Tuesday the 11th of May and it was a huge success!

These sessions will run every week in the textiles room, and anybody is welcome! Both staff and students, and both sewers and non-sewers!

Hopefully, we can see you there!

One Box At A Time!

After a term of collections, the Brighton Secondary community made a generous donation to Women’s Housing Ltd.

Our goal was to fill as many boxes as we could with art supplies for children unable to afford such things, that are living in women’s housing locations across Melbourne.

Our school community donated un-used or hardly used supplies that they had lying around at home. This was a win, win situation because we were able to stop these supplies from going into landfill while giving them to children who are not as fortunate as we are at Brighton Secondary.

We succeeded in donating 22 boxes and bags full of art supplies which have been delivered to families that have experienced family violence.

Thank you to the whole environment team for helping to pack, and sort the supplies, as well as Lindy Parker from Women’s Housing Ltd for driving all the way to our school to collect the donation!
