SPORT - INCREDIBLE ACHIEVMENTS

WHAT AN INCREDIBLE ACHIEVEMENT BY ALL 4 TEAMS!!

Year 7 PASE Girls Tennis

The Year 7 PASE girls tennis team won the Southern Metropolitan Region (SMR) finals and will now go on to playing in the State Finals in November.

The girls who participated in this event:  Savannah, Sienna, Ayane & Alice.

Before the tennis final, I thought we could win because we had won all the matches before, and I thought I could rely on my teammates. After we won, I was so delighted.

Thank you,
Ayane

During the tennis day, I felt very excited but sad that I had to miss athletics. But I still had fun with my good friends, Ayane, Savannah and Alice, happily making it to State Finals. The opponents, if I have to be honest, were not at all challenging, but I feel bad that most had travelled an hour away, just to be beaten easily. Overall, we had so much fun, and I am looking forward States at the end of the year!

I found regionals really fun hanging out with the girls we were a little nervous and unsure on how good everyone would be.  We won our first 2 rounds which gave us confidence for the final.  As we were having our lunch break, we were getting super excited and pumping each other up.  After everyone finished their singles, we were on top with only the doubles to go.  We won both doubles which meant Brighton won. We were all so happy that we got to move onto States which is in November.  The day ended with us all happily taking photos with the flag.

Thanks
Savannah

Year 8 Boys Baseball

Written by Mr Daniel Ward.

I had the pleasure of driving a small group of year 8 boys to the SMR Baseball finals.

We played the winning schools from the remainder of the SMR, Frankston High, Patterson, Albert Park and Alkira.

I am happy to say that we came away with the win defeating all teams by at least 8 runs (that’s a lot for the non PE folk).

The whole team performed extremely well, stealing bases, hitting home runs and being generally excellent.

Standouts were Robinson who plays for the Mariners (Australian team), with a pitching arm that throws rockets. Seriously, he was actually frightening the other teams just in warm ups, hilarious!

But special props to Finley, who was our catcher for the day! Picture standing directly behind the batter (within touching distance), slightly obscured by the batter, while someone throws a small hard ball at you as hard as they can from about 20 feet away. He was outstanding and actually caught the eye (pun intended), of the umpires, organisers and other coaches on the day.

As a result, they have made it to the STATE FINALS on Nov 16!!

Please join me in congratulating the following students, it is a big achievement.

Finley, Charlie, Robinson, Thomas

“Baseball” Gideon, Zac, Thomas and Harry.

Year 7 Girls Softball

On the 7th of May 2021, 10 girls from Year 7 all went to compete in a regional level for Girls fully Loaded Softball.

When we first began training a couple weeks prior, we were nervous and didn’t expect to get this far in the competition. We trained once a week for about 3 weeks before getting into our first game.

We walked out the game with our 1st victory and our first experience playing together as a team. After this win we were feeling pretty confident about playing other schools but weren’t sure if we were ready for regionals.

On the day of regionals, we played 3 games in total against Mentone Girls Secondary College, Frankston Secondary College, and Minaret College.

With our first win against Mentone, we were happy and fired up with determination to win the next 2. The 2nd game we versed Minaret Collage, unfortunately for Minaret, this was one of their first games playing this sport, but fortunately for us, it ended up being our second win.

Our last game against Frankston was nerve racking but was definitely a very fun game. We ended the day with a third win.

Overall, the day was fun for all of us, it was a great opportunity to connect more with our teammates and we had a very fun time celebrating on the way back.

This was ours and a lot of others first time playing fully loaded softball, and the reason we got to where we are right now was because of our teamwork and our amazing coach Ms Gibson.

So well done everyone and thank you so much Ms Gibson, we are looking very forward to states!!!

Also thankyou to our year 10 assistant coaches, Emily and James.

Congratulations

Ellie, Tanisha, Evie, Lucy, Leila, Jorji, Milla, Zlata, Emily and Emily.

Girls Soccer

The Inter Girls took part in an exciting Round Robin. Having only had time for two training sessions, we started the day as a work in progress, with a rough idea of our positions.

We accounted for Beaumaris quite easily  but we knew that the dreaded MCK would be our stiffest opposition as always.

They scored twice in the first ten minutes and maintained the 2-0 scoreline until, with 3 minutes to go, our big guns fired! BANG BANG BANG final whistle.

Emilie, our Swedish star scored first, followed by Megan and finally Madeline scored the winner. All three goals were scored against their classy NPL goalie.

McKinnon were shattered but, to their credit, they lined up and shook elbows showing the excellent spirit and close rivalry that exists between the two schools.

The Beaumaris girls came over to congratulate us after their game against Westall “we were watching you guys from defence!”.

This is, however, the first step in the journey. This team is the nucleus of the famous 2018 Year 7 State Champs and we are once again setting the bar high.
