Tennis

The Intermediate Girls Tennis Team competed in the Campaspe Tennis finals at Echuca College in March and then proceeded onto the Regional Tennis finals in Mildura. Their success in this round gave them the opportunity to compete in the State Finals at the Boroondara Tennis Centre on Friday 21 May.

The competition was strong and our students showed determination and excellent sportsmanship against teams from Box Hill SSC, Galen Catholic College and Maribyrnong Sports Academy.

Although our students did not go through to the finals, we are incredibly proud of their outstanding achievements and reaching the State Finals. Well done to Mia Aston, Ruby Brentnall, Philippa Bush and Amy Parker.

Thank you to the parents and family members who travelled to Mildura and Melbourne to support their student in the finals.

Soccer

After winning at Campaspe Soccer level our Intermediate Boys (Year 9 and 10) travelled to Epsom-Huntly for District Soccer competing with schools from the Swan Hill, Mildura and the Bendigo areas.

In the first game we played Girton Grammar which was the winning school for the Bendigo area. Girton was well organised, fielding students who play soccer every week in Bendigo, but they struggled to pass our defence beautifully led by Carlos Varapodio, Fletcher Ball and Riley Godfrey.

Unfortunately a couple of mistakes towards the end saw Girton scoring two goals and winning the game.

The second game was against Chaffey SC from Mildura. The game was very intense, with our midfield controlled by Lachlan Hogan and Chhay Williams.  Oskar Smartt-Gretgrix scored a beautiful header from a corner kick and at halftime St. Joseph's was leading 2-1. Unfortunately, Chaffey SC scored three beautiful goals in the second half and won the game.

In the last game, St. Joseph's managed to beat Marie McKillop College from Swan Hill 2-1 and positioned itself as the third team out of the four competing on the day.

Chaffey SC won the day and it is now going to represent Northern Victoria at State level in Melbourne.

The fact our students were winning against Chaffey SC demonstrates the competitiveness and grit of our students who did their very best to represent our School with Strength and Kindliness.
