Principal's Message

Rise to the Challenge

COVID-19 UPDATE

Due to today’s COVID restrictions update we will be moving into remote learning for Thursday 24 June. As Friday 25 June is a staff development day, no remote learning will be provided.

Parents are advised that where possible, they should keep their children at home and access the online learning environment that will provided by the teacher tomorrow, Thursday morning.

School will be open for students whose parents cannot provide supervision at home.

In accordance with advice from NSW Health, parents and carers are reminded NOT to send children to school if they are unwell, even if they have the mildest flu-like symptoms.

The safety and wellbeing of our communities are our key priorities. All students are learning unless they are unwell or have a medical certificate to support their absence.

  • Family holidays/movements in vacation time: Families who have holidays planned should make sure they keep themselves informed of areas impacted and any restrictions on movement as outlined by the NSW Government

End of Term 2

Thank you for all your support this term. It has been a very busy ten weeks filled with lots of learning and lots of exciting opportunities for our students. We have had: an ANZAC Day Service, open days, wheelchair sport, Principal for a Day, 'Sculptures by Galilee' with George Raftopoulos & Mary-Anne Boutros, NAPLAN, celebration of 200 years of Catholic Education at St Mary's Cathedral, Feast of Our Lady Help of Christians, National Stimulus Story Time, Cyber Safety talk, Stage 2 & 3 interschool sport, basketball sessions, hot food days, stage 3 puberty talk, class masses, family/parish mass, Opera 'Barber of Seville', year 2 excursion to Centennial Park, SCS first Family Forum, Cross Country Carnival, SCS Eisteddfod in drama, dance and choir, Chess, Spanish lessons, robotics, gymnastics, Mr Joe's farewell and almost the Galilee Walk-a-Thon!

Looking back, I am always amazed at how much we manage to pack into a term and how much progress our students can make in just a short period of time. Without your support, we wouldn’t be able to accomplish what we do.

As we approach the July School holidays we ask for God's blessings for a successful term and a wonderful break from school. I wish you and your family a very relaxing and safe school holiday. I pray that you enjoy quality time together and return to school in Term 3, thoroughly refreshed.

For the challenges, successes, and the mistakes from which we have learnt.

Be with us as we spend our time with family and friends.

Give us strength and courage to do what is right: and to be witnesses of our faith.

Help us to appreciate what others do for us, to give time and effort to help others.

To be peacemakers in our family.

Keep us safe in our activities; give us good rest

Bring us back refreshed and ready for a new term.

We thank you for our teachers and a school community that care for all

May we always be conscious of you in our lives.

Amen

Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences

It was wonderful to see so many parents arriving for their Parent/Teacher/Student conferences and speaking so positively about their child’s progress, so realistically about their child’s challenges and so warmly about their child’s teacher. I certainly welcome your feedback regarding any aspect of the P/T/S conferences.

My appreciation and thanks to you as parents for your valuable role as the primary educators of your child and to the teachers, a dedicated team of professionals who give so generously of their self, skills and time. Improving the learning outcomes for all children at Galilee is our core business. The children are our first priority. This is a great Catholic school that has helped produce not just well educated young adults, but compassionate people who, because of their faith, confidently embrace a future with hope and joy. I hope that you are as proud to be a part of this community as I am.

St Anne & St Joachim's Feast Day - Grandparents / Special Friends Day

Please be advised that our Grandparents Day will be held on Monday 26 July (Term 3 Week 3). An invitation will be coming home first day next term so but please advise grandparents as we know how much they enjoy this special morning.

The morning will start at 8 am with delicious breakfast, then Mass at 9:30 am in the Church followed by a celebration.

Staff Development Day - Faith Formation - Pupil Free Day -

As part of our Faith Formation the Galilee Staff were going to participate in a day on Eileen O'Connor with our Parish Priest Fr Robbie. It would have taken place at the Our Lady's Nurses for the Poor in Coogee with Fr Robbie celebrating mass and sharing his knowledge about the history, beatification and canonisation of Eileen O'Connor.

Due to a local school testing positive to COVID-19 the day has been postponed to another date in Term 3, yet to be confirmed. On Friday the staff will instead focus on curriculum development in Literacy and Numeracy.

The school will be closed on this day and there will be no staff on site.
