Staff Profile

Hello!

My name is Ron King.

I am very pleased to be given the opportunity to work in the important area of Middle School Literacy at Scoresby Secondary College.  I am really looking forward to helping as many students as I can to achieve to the very best of their ability in every subject.

Over the last few years I have been involved in various marking projects for the Australian Council for Educational Research.  It is wonderful to be back in the classroom again.

I have worked in many schools and believe it or not, this will be my fortieth year of teaching.  I started back in 1980, teaching English and Drama at Charlton High School, in country Victoria.  My last teaching job was running the Literacy Development program for Year seven and eight students at Wantirna College.  It was a privilege and a joy to be able to work in small groups with students and steadily help them to improve their motivation, confidence, reading and writing.  Building a relationship where students feel comfortable to ask questions, make mistakes and enjoy learning is so important.

Over many years of teaching, my students have taught me just as much as I have taught them. My students have told me many amazing stories and they have often made me laugh.

I lived with my wife and family in the Rowville area for over thirty years, so I know the South East area of Melbourne well. My three daughters have moved away from home and they are all enjoying their own careers. We also have three gorgeous grandchildren. It is so much fun playing with them!

Nearly two years ago, my wife and I downsized to living in an inner city apartment. It’s amazing to be able to live well in a smaller space and also be able to walk everywhere. We have become used to the comforting sound of trains, because we live very close to a rail line, but also close to a variety of wonderful shops and restaurants.

I really enjoy planning and presenting a weekly Community Radio show. It celebrates the kind of acoustic music that people can really enjoy playing and listening to on their front or back porch.

Thank you for reading my story.
