Junior School Report

Junior School Report

It has been a very busy Term 2 with students participating in a number of activities both inside and outside the classroom. It has been especially great to see an increased number of students participating in inter-school sport competitions including netball and soccer, and students enjoying the wide variety of lunchtime clubs that are offered here at the College.

As the end of semester is fast approaching students are well underway in completing their final assessment tasks. It is important that students continue to stay focused in their studies and ensure that they are working to their individual best. There are a number of support services available to those students who may require extra assistance from teachers. We encourage all students to speak to their teacher during class or after class via email, attend homework club which takes place every Tuesday and Thursday, and seek out their year level coordinator if they need some further support.

Semester 1 reports

This year the College has moved to continuous online reporting through our Compass portal. This means that students receive timely feedback on their assessment tasks which identify areas of achievement and improvement. This feedback is available to both students and parents via Compass under Learning Tasks. Students will still receive a report at the conclusion of Semester 1, however we encourage students and parents to take the time to read teacher feedback and discuss strategies on how they can improve on their learning.

Story Time with Scoresby Secondary College

This term the Year 7 students have been working hard on their creative writing unit which requires them to write a short narrative based on one of the following genres: mystery, adventure or fairytale. An exciting aspect of this project is the opportunity for our students to connect with our local primary schools and share their stories with students in Grades 3 and 4. On Wednesday 2 June, students from Knox Park Primary School and Knox Gardens Primary School will be visiting Scoresby to read with our students and participate in a number of learning activities.

We look forward to our next newsletter edition where we can share some highlights and a snapshot of how the program went.

Our Year 7 band students are putting on a concert, please see attachment.

Year 8 Netball

On Thursday 6 May, a small group of Year 8 students participated in an inter-school sports competition for Netball. The weather was absolutely fantastic and it was a great opportunity for students to participate in physical activity outside the classroom – something that was very much missed last year.

The day consisted of a round robin style tournament with our team versing many of our local secondary schools. Although many of our team members had limited experience in

playing netball, they must be commended on their competitiveness and drive to achieve their best. The positive mindset and focus on teamwork displayed by the girls was a key contributor to recording several wins and securing a spot in the semi- final. Unfortunately, our competition was too good for us in the end but our students must be commended on their team spirit and representing the College with respect and pride.

The following students participated in the Year 8 Netball Inter-school Sport Day:

Atasha Aiolupotea

Tyler- Jane Benghamy

Alyssa Hodgson

Charlee Irvine

Alize Kavamoungaone

We wish all Junior School students the very best for the remainder of Term 2.
